22 oz. bomber. Smooth, clear amber pour, with a smallish head. Sweet, malty, slightly herbal nose is quite prominent. Just the right amount of bite on the tongue to balance the malts, a light citrus tang all the way down. This is a really nice late winter/early spring brew.

Smells earthy like mushrooms, truffles, and roast beef. Nice. Spiky mouthfeel. Good, substantial and well-structured palate. Like old worn velvet: not as soft as it could be but still noble. Earthy, dark flavors like mushroom sauce or broth. Good bittering notes. Mature.

Dark amber with a nice frothy head. Aroma of sweet toffee malt with some citrus hops in the back. The flavor is the same. Toffee, some floral and citrus hops, and a good amount of English Malt sweetness. Finishes mildly bitter and somewhat crisp. Was nothing really all that special, but it was nice.

11/04/2007: Laughing Dog C.S.B. (Crotch Sniffing Bastard) Extra Special Bitter Ale has a deep amber color with a frothy dark beige crown that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. This beer has a mild to moderate level of carbonation and a chewy caramel aroma with a touch of roasted apples in it accompanied by a sweet Maris Otter-like malitness. This beer is going to be good. I can just smell its goodness... The flavor is full of toasted malt and caramel with some earthy, fruit, and floral qualities. What sets this ESB apart from others is the nutty (pecan-Brazil nut?) flavor that comes through with the earthiness exhibited in this beer. The floral-flavored bitterness is most evident in the long, smooth finish. The medium-full body of this beer is quite smooth. Overall this was another very good ESB that I really enjoyed.

Bomber supplied by eaglefan, thanks Brian! Medium sized offwhite head with g decent retention and some clingy lace left behind. Clear amber/copper hued ale. Nose is malty with caramel and toffee notes, light nuttiness with a hint of hop spiceyness. Body is medium, lightly coating on the palate, a hint grainy, soft carbonation. Medium sweet malts, caramel, a bit toasty, lightly spicey and fruity with maybe a hint of chocolate in there. Finish is almost dry, fruity and lasting. Thanks again Brian!!

Bottle courtesy Larry Pitonka/5000. Not from a favorite style of mine, but I picked it out anyway, and within style this one did fairly well. The pour was deep orange, nice head and lacing. The aroma was strong malts, caramel, toffee most notable with an earthiness also present. The flavor was earthy caramel, toffee, herbal notes, nuts, slight bittering hop finish but well behind all the strong malts. Mouthfeel was full and a bit grainy. Thanks, Andre!

Thanks to Pitonka/5000/MacGrubor for this beer. I want to deem this to be a very good interpretation of a general American style beer. First they think of a funny name and it really doesn’t get funnier than this (its the reason I was looking for the beer). Next the brewery is trying to recreate some traditional style, in this case an ESB. In the end the beer comes out nothing like an ESB but a hop centered beer with a funny name. Nothing traditional, nothing outside of hops and a funny name.

Dark copper color with a small head. Its hops in flavor and aroma, not interesting enough to get more specific. Mouthfeel is a bit under-carbonated., which adds a silky feel. Lighted bodied and eh.

From a 22-oz. bottle--a stellar copper-amber hue with a medium creamy off-white dome. Smooth chewy, resinous mouth feel. Palate of greatly balanced hops and malts. Creamy and perfectly carbonated. Finished with a toasty vanilla fruit amalgam. Quite a superb brew!
