Chipper (180), Red Lion, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 10, 2009 Predictably black pour with a huge tan head. Aroma is hoppy but has a big hit of malts. Flavor is smooth and nicely hopped and the malt come though very strong.
Overall very good beer. douglas88 (1557), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 8, 2009 Bomber from the Boise Co-op. Pours out a really nice dark color with a huge thick tan head. The aroma is a rich skunky citrus hop (I mean skunky in the sense of being like weed, not off), toasted malts. A sweet flavor; light citrus and especially orange hops, toasted malts, light bitter and soapy finish. Drinkable and pretty nice. A nice mouthfeel. fromred2green (141), , Ohio, USA Nov 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours all but black with a huge tan head. Aroma of hops. Flavor is hoppy with some fruit flavors and a sweet bitterness. Good mouthfeel. Good beer. Miksu (2194), Jyväskylä, Finland Nov 7, 2009 Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Almost black color with a reddish tint. The aromas of coffee, toffe and fruity, berryish and orangey hops. Bittersweet flavof with berries, coffee, caramel, toffee and orange. Full bodied. Tasty and original. Interesting malt-hop contrast with berryish hoppiness. wwwdottom (24), Breese, Illinois, USA Nov 6, 2009 Pours a dark cloudy copper with huge fluffy head that leaves lacing - faint floral hop aroma - slightly bitter on the palate with a medium body - good brew! EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Nov 4, 2009 Thin dark brown pour. Very thick fluffy head. The bottle overflowed with foam. Grainy aroma loaded with bitter hops. Bitter crisp flavor. Some slight roast. Eh. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Nov 2, 2009 I like this kind of beer. Avery made a really good porter by sticking a lot of hops in a dark beer. I think it’s as good an idea as any other. This was quite nice. Not a lot more to say, however, than it tasted like a hoppy dark ale. corby112 (677), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2009 Pours a deep dark chestnut brown color that is comletely opaque with light mahogany edges when held to a light source and a two finger pillowy, frothy light beige head tht seems to last forever. Lingering thicj cap that leaves chunks of soapy lacing.
Aroma has a good amount of earthy and floral hops that are countered by a roasted chocolate malt presence with hints of toffee, hazelnut and caramel. Slightly smokey making or a strange combination of earthy, floral and citris hops along with rosted dark malt notes.
Very bitter dry piney hops up front that are quickly countered by a very strong buttery toffee presence. There is a strong dark caramel and chocolate malt backbone with hints of dark fruit, mostly sour cherries and dark berries. It really does taste like a very biter chocolate covered chrry. Very odd and unpleasant combination of flavors. The bitterness lingers thorughout but the strange malt backbone is very rominent and the whole beer is a bit of a mess. Not a fan.
