22 oz. Pours a dark color, semi-translucent black, small tan head. Aroma is notes of citrus hops, malts. Flavor is pretty smooth, touch of pine, grass, malts, slightly sweet. A pretty good dark IPA.

Caramel, pineapple, and cedar nose. Cloudy brown with a thick tan head. Very bitter charcoal, dates, and horehound, but without even a hint of sweetness. 80/20 bitter to sour ratio. Earwaxy. My only experience with a "black IPA" prior to this is the SSSR.(sampled as the Stone XI ) I know it is an unfair comparison, but I can’t help but be disappointed by this. It’s full of character, but it’s too bitter. Downrated for the hyper-bitterness uprated for the wicked cool name .The upside is it pairs unusually well with pie a la mode. Any pie will do, but I recommend piping hot blackberry pie with vanilla bean ice cream.

pours a rootbeer color with a long lasting light beige ring and lots of spotty lacing. some sort of fruit jumps out of the aroma... maybe citrus? i think the color is throwing me off.... fruity, waxy pine, barley cooked with a bit of molasses and some caramel. the flavor is quite ashy... along with notes of cocoa, leafy grass, waxy resinous pine, malt, a hint of sweetness and a very bitter finish. lingering dryness is nice... medium body with soft carbonation. it is not creamy but not sudsy either?... 6/5/6/3/15/3.5

Bottle at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours out in a dark brown colour with a firm beige head. Rich resinous aroma melted with treacles, pine and cocoa. Medium-bodied with notes of resin, roasted malts, cocoa, mint, and dried cherries. Quite soft mouthfeel. Long bitter finish of resin, mint and pine with hearty undertones of cookies and dark chocolate. Nice one!

Very deep brown, decent head. Aroma was chocolate accented roasty malts with a hint of pine hops. Flavor was more hop accented, still pine hop and resin oriented, with some roasted malts as well. Just didn’t quite do it for me, perhaps because the roast notes were a touch to prominent for my taste - might as well go all out stout at that point.

650 ml. Ridiculous amount of foam on a soft pour; finally settles to a creamy ring on a clear, deep copper-brown body. Aroma of resin, toasted nut and wood lacquer. Tastes of the same plus bitter chocolate, grapefruit and charred oak. Medium body is smooth, drinkable and dry.

22 oz. pours dark with huge fluffy head. looked like a root beer float. aroma is roasted hops with some fruit that comes through. the mouthful has a full hoppy presence with a roasted malted that come through big as well. very enjoyable BIPA.

On-Tap @ Bailey’s Taproom poured into Shaker glass. Pours a very deep, dark reddish-brown and edging that glows with a creamy tan colored head that lasts for sometime and remains a layer atop the glass. The aroma has sweet chocolate, roasted malts and some fruity hops, although faint. The flavor has much of the same although more sweetness and has a nice soft bitter finish. Its a medium bodied beer that is plenty carbonated and has a slightly dry finish. I found it to be a more balanced "Black IPA" than most others I have tried. Pretty good. It has a soft smokiness that becomes present as the beer the warms up.
