| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2009 650 ml bottle courtesy of ditmier. Thanks Eric. Pours a dark brown color with amber highlights when held to a light. The head is beige and huge with great retention and crazy lacing. The nose is piney with resins, citrus, thyme and yeast. The flavor is biter hops forward with a moderately biter piney hops, some earthy dust, walnuts and sweet roasted malts. The mouthfeel was a bit uneven, with great carbonation. The finish is long with lingering earthy hops. Overall: A very solid IPA, but just a bit harsh. guzzler67 (1283), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2009 Extra large beige head over the aptly named black body, along with very good lacing. Sniff this while the head is stilll intact and there are citrus and herbal hops. Beneath the head the earthy aroma is engulfed by the roasted caramel malts. Taste seems to flip flop a bit as well. The initial hoppy bitterness gives way to flavors of caramel, coffee and rye bread, before the hops reappear in the aftertaste and linger for awhile. Interesting; a step above ordinary and a step below complex. jeffc666 (1893), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2009 Reddish tinted but mostly black. Very large pillowy tan head. Sweet roasted malts and pine. I quite like the flavor. Nice mix of big resinous hops and roasted malts. For as large as the head is it is not at all over carbonated. NJBeerman013 (782), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

It has a slightly roasted hoppy aroma with slight notes of spice. Tasting, it shows a little more of the hops, toasted nut, spicey pepper, honey, pine, and citrus notes detected. Interesting brew. goldtwins (4083), Nesconset, New York, USA
