Lakes (18), post falls, Idaho, USA Oct 23, 2009 On tap at the 09 Fresh Hop Ale festival.
This was my first stop at the festival since Laughing dog had won 2 years in a row. It was instantly apparent that they were on track to win again. The beer was great. Huge nose, and rich hop resins. Floral but not gardeny. Big citrus. Actually balanced which was surprising concidering how big the hops were. Great beer. Go hop head Fred!
ditmier (1019), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 18, 2009 Tap @ Bittercreek - Pours translucent copper with a small beige head...aroma is grassy and floral, malt and a bit of dirt...flavour is similar, earthy hops, dry malt..nice lingering bitterness... Nice Green Grassy hop aroma with a very clean finish just what a Fresh hop ale should be riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Oct 30, 2008 Aroma of fresh leafy hops. Also diacetyl and some light pale malts. Pours a golden tone with a nice lasting fluffy head. Fresh earthy hops initially followed by some bready/biscuity malts. Some butter creeps through and detracts from the pleasantly fresh hops. Crisp fresh finish. Medium carbonation, smooth, and fresh. But the butter... oh well. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 28, 2008 Draft at Malt & Vine. Pours a slightly hazy medium copper. Thin but dense creamy tan head. Nice earthy, leafy hop nose, unfortunately dominated by a heap of movie popcorn butter...huge diacetyl bomb. Gorgeous creamy medium body with nice crisp and refreshing carb. Mid-palate comes up with some biscuit and maybe crackers, then a nice burst of earthy/dry-leaf-y hop presence, all washed over by acrid stale fake butter. The finish should be all tidy and resiny with a nice cling, you can tell, but there’s so much diacetyl it gets kinda vomitous. What a shame--this one showed huge promise. BuckeyeBoy (1639), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 26, 2008 Tap @ The Front Door Pours out a nice clear light gold topped with a nice sand head. A great fresh pine nose. Tast a nice mix of malt and pine/grass hops. A nice brew. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Oct 26, 2008 Tap @ TFD: Yellow/golden pour, lightly hazy. Large offwhite head and good lacing. Aroma of floral and piney hops, light citrus, and a bit malty. Tastes more balanced in hops than the Rocket Dog. Citrus and floral with a light malt presence. Good. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Oct 25, 2008 Tap @ The Front Door: Pours a copper golden color with a nice sticky head and nice lacing. The nose is fresh with some piney resinous hop notes and a lupulin dust like cascades. A pale malt and chewy vine note in the flavor. Bitter tail with a hoppy balanced wet hop notes with the dry. Not bad, hoppy but a little sticky and resinous.
