beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Sep 10, 2008 From the bottle pours light gold with a soft white head. I enjoy pepper beers, they need a solid pepper flavor with enough heat to get the fire going in the chest. This had a nice pepper flavor to the finish, and a solid heat to it. The nose didn’t show all that much pepper. The base beer was very light and didn’t add much, very underwhelming until the pepper heat kicks in. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 5, 2008 12oz bottle from Belmont Station in Portland, OR--Poured a burnished sienna-orange-copper body with a moderate white head. Spicy, peppery, vegetal nose with a mild hoppy and biscuit malt presence. Crisp, clean, non-aggressively spiced. One of the nicest pepper beers I have had the pleasure in tasting. jdp (54), Texas, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle from Pilgrim’s in CDA, ID. Pour golden yellow with a decent white head. Smell of light malt. Taste is of a light malty ale with light hops and then a bite of chili. This was a bottle from 2007 and seemed to have more bite than the draft I had of the same beer. Probably the best chili beer I’ve had. skoisirius (570), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 26, 2006 12 oz bottle into a glass. Pours a orangish amber body with a foamy white head. The aroma mainly brings a light malt nose with touches of herbs tossed in. The flavor begins with a nice malt which quickly zaps into a chili pepper spice that amazingly gets more intense as it goes down the throat and hits the palate. The chili pepper spice lingers for a bit in the throat. I was honestly amazed at how much I actually liked this!! It’s nothing that’s going to blow you out of the water, but it’s a nicely done spiced brew. I can see why it won an award. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 4, 2006 Interesting beer. Light amber body with a nice head. Aroma is hoppy and chili pepper. Flavour starts malty and then the chili pepper kicks in. Yes, its hot and spicy which most won’t enjoy in there beer, as I don’t either, but this one is well balanced and fun. glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA May 19, 2006 Updated: May 21, 2006Clear light amber with medium head. Sweet chili pepper smell is interresting...but not very inviting. Whoa. This really is a spicy beer...honestly just tastes like burning. It’s not overly spicy...but that’s all I get out of it. Failed to leave an actual rating, so I’m resubmitting; it’s bad, but not ".5 bad". 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA May 17, 2006 Bottle: Translucent golden, moderate white frothy head, spotty lacing, light carbonation. Somewhat of sweet chile nose, perhaps even a bit melon like. Definite chile spices up front... I feel like I just drank a taco. Bizarre, to say the least. Underlying beer is overshadowed by the heat. Long lingering spiciness is nice, or at least its not a weak spiced beer. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Chile peppers linger for a long long time after this one is done. Maybe better to tone it down a bit? Naw... but now I feel like having a chimichanga.   Its in my opinion that this beer is best served very cold.
BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA May 6, 2006 Bottle: Picked up this gem at Huckleberry’s in Spokane, WA. Upon opening it was a violent gusher, but I don’t think it was an infection. The carbonation and head when poured wasn’t higher than normal but I did lose about 3oz of the stuff during the volcanic eruption. It pours a lightly hazy yellow/gold color with a puffy white head, nice retention and lacing. The nose is lightly vegetal with a touch of malt sweetness. The flavor is a bit tangy from hop bitterness and a light body. The vegetal nose converts itself to a vegetal flavor and tingles the tongue. You can feel a bit of heat spike in the back of your throat but it’s not too much. You could probably chug about a 6 pack of this before you really needed something for the heat. Decent heat level though, some of these chili beers are either too low or too high (you know which one I’m talking about).
