FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Sep 14, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of an extra from riversideAK. Pours a very dark near opaque blackish brown, a big dark brown head that cakes, stays moderate sized, laces ok. Aromas are some sweet lactose, a touch of sweeter chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of coffee provide some roasty bitterness. Very dark chocolate in my book, with a sweeter edge like you find in mass produced dark chocolate candy (Not the 80% Cacao quality stuff) Initial is light bodied with an almost watery body for the style, roasty malts mix with chocolate and coffee, but smaller, decent intensity. There is almost a twang to the beer, underbodied and lacking the creamy body or sweetness I was really thinking I’d get. Ok, but not a sweet stout I’d revisit. mbgrayson (141), Anaconda, Montana, USA Jun 12, 2009 I wanted to like this one more than I did. It pours very black, with a dark tan head. Taste is more bitter than sweet. Roasted coffee flavors. Not one of my favorite stouts. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Jun 9, 2009 Updated: Jul 22, 2009Tap. I enjoyed this beer a lot. Flavors of coffee, oatmeal, and chocolate. This beer was incorrectly advertised at the bar. I looked at it as a stout not a sweet stout. mvardjan (8), , Pennsylvania, USA does not count Mar 14, 2009 Very unique flavor. I have never had a beer quite like this. Nice sweet flavor with balanced bitterness of an imperial stout. Easy to drink. DickDunnigan (26), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 4, 2009 Tap @ TFD Boise. Great mocha-colored head. Aroma of burnt-chocolate. There seems to be a sour off-taste, not what I would expect from a sweet stout. Seems overly bitter. I expect more lactose-based sweetness. OK for a stout, but sub-par for a so-called sweet stout. Wasatch (270), Layton, Utah, USA Jan 11, 2009 Pours a black color, but way too much carbonation, with a huge foamy light tan head, which took forever to develope, which does leave alot of foamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is very nice though, malty, roasty, with some toffee notes. The taste is slightly sweet, malty, slight vanilla. Medium body. Drinkable, a nice tasting brew, but the over carbonation and huge foamy head does turn me off. Glad to have tried it though. stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 7, 2008 After waiting a good half hour for the head to subside, what was underneath was so-so. Over-carbonated. buddahmind (39), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 27, 2008 Draft Front Door Boise. Heavy dark malt flavor, not so much chocolate or coffee as the nose might suggest. Hops for sure. Good lacing and a medium body. Nicely done as usual from Fred and the folks @ Laughing Dog!
