Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and caremel aroma. Heavy bittersweet roasted malty flavor with a heavy coffee bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration.
Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation.
This is a standout beer.
Delsym (29), Vinton, Virginia, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bomber. This one has all the asthetics of a classic IS: motor-oil black color, pervasive choco-coffee aroma, and a nice kick-in-the-pants alcohol wang. I would’ve liked a bit more roasty flavor a’ la Old Rasputin, but overall this brew is a solid example of the style. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Nov 4, 2009 Bomber thanks to Ditmier. Pours a thick black with a big tan head. Aromas are dark fruit and chocolate. Flavor follows suit with a light boozy note. Very good. GandGKevin (183), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Nov 3, 2009 Pours black with a small tan head. Muted aromas of chocolate and a little coffee. Big chocolate and coffee and wood flavors. Not as dense as some RIS, but very enjoyable overal. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 4, 2009 liked this RIS even though it was not a thick chocolately RIS. In fact, its mouthfeel was average, and overcarbonated. It was balanced and quite drinkable malted coffee.Good roast. The chocolate liquor was there, and ws in the secondary. Dark brown colour with moderate head.

A very good beer. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Sep 20, 2009 22oz bottle-pours a cascading to shaving cream light brown head and black color. Aroma is sweet chocolate/licorice/molasses-dark malt, roasty, some acidity, dark fruit. Taste is sweet chocolate/licorice/molasses-dark malt, roasty, some acidity, alcohol, dark fruit, hops bite. Full body with good carbonation. Occasional. Cellar temperature is better. Ughsmash (3979), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 25, 2009 Bomber. Poured deep brown with a creamy, well-retained cap of tan head.. looked rich. The aroma was strong with dark chocolate and black patent maltage accented by earth and almost fruity notes.. warm overall. The flavor had the same heavy malt bill that was laced with vanilla and cracked, dry earth.. spicy and hot on the back, and the transition came out of nowhere. Creamy carbonation on the palate gave a smooth feel until that heat hit on the back.. bitterness was complementary for the most part.. not a great impy stout.
