There’s some oak, bakers chocolate, roast and tar. My sniffer is kind of jacked up, so... wait...wait...there it is. Very nice. This thing has a big ole yummy flavor. Mostly chocolate, there’s a dry oak component, and it bitter as hell. I really like this. Medium body and easy to drink. A little bit of oil. I really like this one. I noticed there’s a bourbon barrel aged version. I bet its great. mreusch (730), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 17, 2009 22oz. bomber, with thanks to both SuzyGreenberg and ditmier for bonus bottles, appreciate it guys! Pours a very dark brown/black with a large tan head. Aroma is roasty, with bittersweet chocolate, caramel and some faint pine and citrus hops. Flavor is sweeter, with more hops presence, along with more roast and light chocolate. A nice effort, but doesn’t seem to quite come together. Thanks again to both Ben and Eric! daknole (2940), Plantation, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Bottle from 5000. Bottle. Black pour wtih a fairly small head. Aroma is roated malt with some chocolate. Flavor has some chocolate but finishes with some weird medicinal properties. A bit astringent. Still a pretty good beer, but not quite what I expected. Oh well. theisti (1665), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2009 22 oz bottle provided by HomeBrewHawk. Pour is black brown, hazy, with a smallish tan head. Aroma of muted cocoa chocolate maltiness. Nose is a little acidic, with a little bit of sharpness. Taste is syrup fruit sweetness, milky lactic coffee, with acidity that lingers. Palate is medium and coating, featuring a long long finish. The sum of the parts come together to build a better beer than I would have expected. Thanks for bringing this one Pete!
