| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 24, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a pitch black body with a large frothy brown head that slowly fell to a dense dollop of creamy head. The nose is deeply roasty with a bit of tar and licorice. Some dark bitter chocolate and noticeable alcohol. The roast is extremely heavy on the flavor and it’s very astringent, which doesn’t work well at all with the heavy handed hoppiness. Combine that with the very prominent alcohol and this just isn’t pleasant at all to drink. Mouthfeel is thick, oily, and heavy, lingering on forever with acrid roastiness. The huge alcohol warmth evokes a strong memory of cough syrup rather than beer. In a word: unpleasant. Beardface (1036), Eugene, Oregon, USA

Pours out the deepest, darkest black with a massive cocoa colored head. Absolutely beautiful presentation. Aroma is initially all coffee, but as it warms it veers more chocolately and slightly boozy. Very roasted flavor with big coffee and chocolate tastes, especially as it warms. Definite winner and awesome name/label. JaBier (1261), Capital City, Ohio, USA
