On tap at Laurelwood, Portland. Chestnut colour with beige head. Smokey hop. Not much like a German alt bier, except maybe the malt is. Hoppy aroma, bit of fruit. Malts are alright. Just a touch of sourness, then coffee flavour. Again a tad nettley. It’s got great hops, but an alt?

On tap at Laurelwood Publick House in Portland, OR. 5 ounce sample. A bit of graininess in the aroma with mild sweet chocolate hints. Slight metallic and pine are also present. A bit faint. Transparent amber color with off-yellowish head that is rather small. Light sweet maltiness to start, turning more roasted in the middle with lots of caramel present. Turns sweeter towards the end with some mild spicy noble hops. Refreshing, nice body, decent flavor. Well-crafted.

This was highly enjoyable, almost tannic. The first taste rips into your tastes buds, with all kinds of subtleties from the spices and the hops. Very complex malty backbone, with just enough of a fruitcake flavor to make it very enjoyable.
