22oz bottle. Pours a clear ruby red with a nice off white head. Aroma is huge citrusy cascade hops, lightly roasted caramel malt. Flavor is much the same, citrusy, sprucey cascade hops up front, balanced with a very nice bready, caramel, nutty maltiness and finishes with a medium sprucey bitterness of the cascade hops. Very nice beer and I don’t really care for red ales, but the nice hopping is what really makes this a great easy drinking beer.

Bottle from uncle. Pours very clear amber with a large lacy fluffy white head. Aroma is citrusy with plenty of cascade hops nice malt background with a good crystal malt aroma very nice. Flavor is on the bitter hop side with some malt background Very smooth and easy drinking flavor just does not live up to look and aroma. Great session beer though

22. Pours a crystal clear bright maroon-highlighted dark amber. Beautiful true red color. Dense, creamy tan head that falls quickly to loose and sloppy lace. Toasty malt nose, some cookie dough showing, and maybe a little bit of sweet dates. Kind of odd for an amber, made me wonder whether it was a bug, but I think it’s just really sweet grain flavor. Sometimes you get an organic sandwich bread that’s surprisingly sweet. Natural sugars seem to persist through cooking a lot better than refined white sugars, in many cases. Sweet and bready mid-palate. Tasty, and no doubt what they were going for, but for my money has a little trouble deciding whether it wants to be a little sweeter and more decadent or aim for a refreshing side. And it’s the poorer, and more muddied, for that fence-walking. Not a bad beer by any means, but Laurelwood is fast reaching a point with me where the expectations are just higher than they are for other breweries, and beers that are just OK don’t really cut it from them.

Amber orange, good head. Light cirtus nose with a faint waft of menthol. Nice sweetness and balance in the malt, almost hints at Vienna style. Nice caramel and a little fruitcake with drying finish. Well made

Tasted 19/09/2009. 22oz bottle. Pours a bright lambent amber with a just off-white head. Nice combination of caramel and citrus hops. A little floral note. Well balanced, sweet through the middle with good hop flavour, well carried, and a drying hop finish with medium bitterness. Solid. Moreish, very drinkable.

Nose is earthy, floral, and a little citrus. Malt smells toasty and lightly sweet. Pours amber/copper with a nice beige head. The flavor is earthy with light floral bitterness, toasted bread, light caramel, and a dusty earthy finish. lively carbonation with a lingering light bitter flavor. Good amber.
