Beautiful in the glass. Nose is of burnt malts, almost like wet burnt wood. Mouthhfeel is medium with quite a bit of carbonation. Flavor is dominated by the burnt wood taste with a little bit of chocolate. Finish is dry. tronraner (1934), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 12, 2008 Bomber. Pours surprisingly dark black with a small tan head. The aroma is roasty-sweet, with some raisin and other dark fruits and a bit of milk chocolate. The flavor is roasted barley and bitter chocolate, but seems very hollow somehow. There’s a slight ashy sourness to the finish that is pretty satisfying, but all in all, it just seems like it’s lacking something. marcus (1896), Sacramento, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 8, 2008 This black ale poured with a nice tan head that gradually dissipated. Unfortunately, it doesn’t taste as good as it looks. The flavor is chocoate malt, but watery with a skunky finish. bhensonb (4361), Woodland, California, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Deep brown with a dark tan head. Nice aroma of roasted malts, slightly sweet, buttery, oak, and slightly bitter. Flavor is lightly chocolate, sweet malts, come coffee, kinda sour, earth tones. Finish is a bit metallic and sour. Body is a bit thin with plenty of carbonation. Better than the percentile says I think, but could use some improvement. ManvsCity (105), Redmond, Washington, USA
| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | May 24, 2008 Twenty-two oz bottle. Overly fizzy with a thick brown head that fades quickly. Rich aroma of oak and walnuts. Body nearly black. Tastes of spent coffee grounds, old burnt athletic socks and over ripe banana peels. Pours down the drain with few tell tale bubbles. Please let this bottle be the exception.
