A- Pours a clear brown hue with little to no head. S- Smell is pecan, caramel, slight yeastiness. T- Taste is nutty, sweet, hints of hops in the back end. M- Medium viscosity, lots of carbonation. D- This is a great brown ale. Definitely a session beer. Not a lot of complexity but today at 102 degrees in Gilroy, it’s just what i’m looking for.

12 oz brown bottle at a downtown Vicksburg watering hole. Clear deep brown with ruby highlights.Moderate off-white head with some persistence. Roast malts, caramel, and some nutty aromas. Malt assentuated flavor of caramel and roast malts with some nuttiness and some fruity yeast overtones. Enough hop bitterness to balance. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Slightly bitter finish. Very tasty brown ale with enough of the pecan character to show through.

A deep red pour. Lively beige frothing about. Raisin, minerals, light pine, red fruit, and the lightest earthy nuttiness in the aroma; seems spritzy and cold rather than smooth and warm as a brown ought to compose itself. Sufficiently malty, it projects this spoiling synthetic metallic tone of a weak maple syrup. Digging beneath that unpleasantry reveals a very plain brown rice interior that slowly muscles out those initial impressions, with a little warmth. Flavor has more of this frontal complexity that seems to hollow out, but it bolsters itself more readily with a steadfast support of soft nuttiness, molasses, and brown sugar. The bittersweetness of pecans seems prevalent and fitting. Malts seem polished. Mid palate is a downhill struggle of these niceties tumbling into that same, brittle iron water blended with maple syrup suggestion that makes the aroma so unapproachable. Still, drinkability doesn’t suffer. Thin to medium bodied, round, smooth, and laid back; workable sessioning texture. Finishes sweetly, with some length on a smack of honey and bitter nut skins. Turns out to be somewhat amiable. Thanks Bill!

Moderate brown (coca-cola) in color with a thin white head that fades quickly. Aromas were of caramel, citrus and pecan. In the mouth it is light, lacking depth and concentration for what looks and smells like it should be deeper. Quite drinkable but I wish there was more depth and power.

bottle, thanks to ddepsouth for this one. beer poured a medium, clear brown wtih a fizzy fairly short lasting head. Aroma is fairly malty with some evidence of pecans. Flavor profile is malty and some decent hops balance this one out well. Pecan flavor is evident, but if no one told you what was in it you might have a hard time guessing. Carbonation is a tad high, but overall this is a very drinkable and fun beer. Thanks again deepsouth!!

this is a local brew for me, so i have had the pleasure of drinking it from the tap on several occasions. i enjoyed this tasting more than those, since it’s first time i actually avoided the dreaded frozen mug compliments of our fine establishments. i drank the beer out of one of the new sam adams glasses. now for the beer... appearance is very nice. it poured a medium brown with about two inches of head that dissipated about a third the way down the glass. lacing was nice and there was plenty left to see by the time i finished this brew. the smell was good. not necessarily knock you out good, but very nice for a brown ale. the pecan is definitely in there. the smell is much better as the beer warms and the pecans come through superbly. the taste is very balanced throughout and it finishes quite nicely. the mouthfeel was just average. it was a bit thin, but not even close to unacceptable. i noted that upon warming, this beer was delightful. i think it’s better at a warmer temperature. the drinkability is off the charts with this one. it really would be a great session beer. i’m glad these come in six packs now. i can’t help but think that some of you are high when you rated this beer.

Pours amber with a fingers length head that is white and initially rocky. Smells very nutty with some nice chocolate and caramel notes. Taste is very nutty and sweet with pecans dominating everything. Different but rather one-dimensional even for a brown ale.

Sampled at DLD 2008. Pours a clear orange-brown with a thin beige head. On the nose are sweet toasted malt, caramel and a light pecan. Light to medium-bodied and slick with a lightly woody, dry finish. The flavor follows the nose with a bit more emphasis on the pecans, at the finish. This is a pretty nice session brew with the pecans playing a supporting rather than primary role.
