Cornfield (4255), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Apr 30, 2008 Thanks to a BA guy who was hanging around the The LoSBD table at DLD. Unbeknownst to him, he gave me a new state. With my dietary woes, I get much of my protein from nuts and beans. I’m sure glad that this was seasoned with the former. From the bottle it poured a light brown body (chestnut, perhaps?) with a modest white head. It has a sweet worty aroma enhanced by what seemed to be a pecan extract. Just enough of a soft nut bitterness is added to the flavor to keep it from getting cloying. Sessionable.

FlacoAlto (2074), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 19, 2008 A smooth but vigorous pour into my 25cl tulip glass forms a fat, three-finger thick, lightly browned, tan colored head. The beer is a deep red, almost plum color that shows a brilliantly clear, copper tinged, full red color when held up to the light. The aroma has a soft fruitiness to it up front that mixes in with an earthy nutty and toasted malt character. A touch of astringent, roasty grain notes are found towards the end of the aroma. The more I dig around in the aroma the more nutty notes I start to smell. I do like how the soft, berry like, fruitiness mixes with the nut character and malt notes in the aroma.
Served a little cold, about 40°F / 4.5°C and tastes sweet up front. A prickly carbonation provides a touch of pepper and a definite fizz to the texture. The finish has a lingering, light-medium fullness to it that sticks just a touch to the palate. The nuttiness is at first noticed as an oral-nasal effect in the middle, but becomes more distinct and flavored as the beer slips down my throat. The nuttiness has a toasty, slightly astringent (almost tannic in some ways) note to it. A fruitiness is noticeable in the taste as well, with touches of currants as well as some raisin like flavors. This is highly quaffable and I could definitely see myself drinking a few pints of this.
An interesting beer that has just enough character to keep me interested. By far the best beer I have had from Mississippi (ok it is the only one too, but it is still good). dchmela (686), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 12 oz bottle courtesy Beerandblues2. Pours a nice dark amber with a thin white head. Nice malty nutty aroma, not overpowering. Taste is smooth malt, nice roasty grains. Nice easy going brown ale. sloth (1511), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Aug 16, 2008 Pours a small tan with fair retention and some spotty lace. Clear, amber orange colored brew. Nose is soft with pecan nuttiness, malts are lightly sweet, caramelly, grainy. Body is med/light, lightly oily on the palate, nice for some reason. Grainy, bready malts flavors are fairly dry, pleasently nutty with a light fruitiness and a hint of licorice. Lightly sweet, gently nutty finish. A nice sesion brew imho and would be a welcome drink in my house anytime. Surprisingly drinkable! Props to BeerandBlues2 for the pair of 12ozers! Thanks Brad! unclemike (328), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Aug 15, 2008 Dark amber with a big, tight biege head. Malty sweet nose with hints of caramel and raw grain. Lively on the tongue. Lots of caramel and toffee sweetness with an almost peppery bight to it. I’ll take the suggestion and say that there are both flavor aspects and an almost raw nut dustiness to this beer that could easily be attributed to pecans Good tasting and smooth. mhelgason (421), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Aug 5, 2008 Tap at the Bulldog in Jackson, MS. small khaki creamy lasting head into clear brown body with decent lacing present. aromas of light mild hops, light malts (caramel) , and a touch of grass. watery to slightly dry texture. average carbonation. Okay brown.
