mabel (1583), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2008 [1394-20080530] Tap. Boozy clear-coat varnish or paint thinner aroma. Hazy, dark brown amber body with quick grey bubbles. Heavy caramelized yeast flavour has boozy sweet malt. Bubbly full body. Interesting to try.
(4T @ Mondial; Montreal, QC) jerc (3102), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 3, 2008 2008-05-30. Hazy ruddy brown body with a small tan/beige head that resists resuscitation. (3+). Mild aroma, sweet malt, and rich caramel notes. (7+) Flavour is simple but rather lovely, caramel and sugars over sweet malty base. Alcohol is near invisible but starts to show as it warms. Smooth medium bodied palate is lightly carbonated. (3+) Nice, dangerously quaffable. On tap, Mondial, Montreal, 4T
Glouglouburp (1916), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 4, 2007 Cloudy brown body with a medium beige head. Cake malts offer a lot of toffee and caramel. The beer feels very “round”. Green leafy hops do not quite balance it out but it’s not the goal here. Full bodied. Surprisingly the beer doesn’t feel very sweet which is a plus for me. No alcohol presence. Very good. One of the good quebec Scotch Ales. As good as the second version of the Bièropholie MacKroken Flower but not quite as good as the first version of the Bièropholie MacKroken Flower. What’s with the MacKroken Flower name being re-used for many Scotch Ales in quebec? Why can’t they give quebec Scotch Ales an original unique names. Like, I don’t know, Wee Heavy. french tickler (473), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Jun 5, 2007 *Drank at le Mondial 07* On tap. Murky brown poor with a thin beige head. Aromas of caramel, creme brule, very floral and hints of pepper. Predominant alcohol to the palate, slightly enjoyable bitterness and tad salty? Added flavors of caramel, pecan pie, pepper and a hint of coffee? Not bad at all... GRM (815), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Nov 6, 2006 Draught, sample, at the Bières et saveurs festival (Chambly), trip with Dum et Jean-Sébastien, purchased on September 2 2006; eye: brown, suspended matter, beige head, lacing; nose : caramel, scotch, alcohol; mouth: caramel, scotch, pepper, finale in caramel-alcohol, syrupy texture, medium body, mildly sweet and bitter, mildly carbonated
