Glouglouburp (1943), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 14, 2008 Updated: Jul 10, 2008In short: Bland blonde beer with a light astringency
How: Bottle, freshly bought at the store but I suspect this isn’t fresh.
The look: Cloudy orange-golden body with almost no head
In long: Malt profile reminiscent of plain donut with maybe a little rye thrown in. Some fruity notes of orange and lemon. A bit more yeasty than expected. It’s been a few years since my last Chanvre Blonde but I remember it being lighter, more lemony and more refreshing than this. Medium body and medium carbonation. There was something off in the beer but it was mostly covered by a pleasant astringency. All in all a very bland but non-offensive blonde hemp beer. Same with people, if you mix a blonde and hemp you end-up with something uninteresting but at least it goes down easy. GregClow (2332), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 9, 2006 Bottle (labelled as Le Gobelet Les Fantomes de la Maison Trestler) courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a light yellow-gold with a small white head. Aroma of sweet, grainy malt with vague yeast and spice notes. Crisp, thin mouthfeel. Flavour is primarily grainy, with some mild spice and hops in the finish. Pretty bland, but not awful. Boutip (1769), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Aug 15, 2006 Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with a medium white foamy head with average retention. Aroma of sweet malt is pretty discreet with a touch of spices that is very subtle. Some refreshing sweet malt with some weird spices/smoke also dominates taste. Body is thin and this is not a beer that I will necessarily be seeking anytime soon. tupalev (2299), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 13, 2006 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and blankboy, Harry’s bottle. Medium to light yellow, small white head. Lemony yeast aroma, fresh light hops, fresh light malt. A little odd light malt taste. Very bland. Watery. Maybe a hint of banana. Wouldn’t want to have it again, but it wasn’t dreadful.
