Commercial Description:
Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

341 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Cloudy orange-amber with a so-so off-white head. Aroma: Spicy yeasty and some fruitiness, earthy coriander, citrus, some medium-roasted malts, kinda like a wheat beer in some ways. Palate: Medium-ish body, lively effervescence. Flav.: Some toasted grains, some earthy, citrusy coriander, somewhat spicy, light esters, a bit fruity; dry with a touch of bitterness.

Not bad but not terribly exciting either.

Pours amber into a shaker. Bright white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Honey and coriander aromas. Slightly flat with coriander and yeast. Pepper finish.

Spicy beer that boasts on "explosive taste" but doesn’t deliver on it. Yes the taste is spice, yes it is a smoother than most but compared to other beers it doesn’t hold a flame. It’s a beer that I would drink again but not go out of my way to find.

Pours deep clear gold with a short-lived head. The flavor is good but unremarkable; this beer shines on the palate, however, and the combination of buckwheat and coriander give a unique and pleasant spicy aroma. Pretty good, and an interesting change of pace every so often.

On tap at Le Cheval Blanc. Pours a hazy blonde with a nice white head. Aroma is very fruity, heavily spiced with coriander- but fresh, and not bad- phenolic Belgian yeast character- similar to la chouffe- light bubblegum as well. Flavor is doughy bready, coriander citrus, orange, yeasty and spicy yeasty phenolic- mostly clean and easy to drink.
