muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jul 3, 2007 Sampled draught at the Mondial, Montreal (May 2007). Hazy/opaque light yellow with a nice lasting frothy topping and a bit of chunky lace....lovely spicy aroma, banana-citrus dominating, ginger and white pepper, coriander may be there in the mix but it’s light....the body doesn’t see the development in the nose quite through, it’s rather Sprite-like at first though some nice cookie-dough malts show up eventually and keep it from self-destruction....caronbation remains quite high, and it finishes a little too dry and hard. Sammy (3023), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 1, 2007 Modiale 2007. Cloudy, promising by view Sour in aroma, oh one like that. corriander, and orange peel. Bit creamy. Drinkable, but sour. MartinT (4307), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 12, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A veil of foam shields the hazy, bright yellow.
-Milky coriander, citrusy wheat, and spicy yeastiness are all nicely laid out, developing an intricate perfume.
-Citrusy, spicy fruitiness are united to a yeasty dryness.
-The well-rounded maltiness could be better served by a frothier carbonation (if true Belgian style is desired).
What if you dig deeper?
-Some sweat is even found in the aroma; truly a complex, never boring rendering of the witbier perfume this is.
-Blueberry skins, starfruit evolve in the nose and flavor profile.
-Yet another very good product from Trou du Diable; these guys can do German, English, and Belgian with surprising aplomb.
