Tap - Fish Brewery - Olympia, WA
Aroma – Deep malt aroma with a strong alcohol aroma also
Appearance – Golden in color, clear, with a nice head
Flavor – Had a deep malt and hops flavor with the alcohol coming through very lightly. This was Like a IPA with a kick.
Palate – Dry to the finish this beer can grab you if needed.
Overall –Not bad had a deep hoppy flavor and was easy to drink. Hard to tell it was a Strong Ale. This will sneak up on you.

On tap at the Fishbowl Pub, brought home a growler-full. Dark ruby hue. Understated head. I wasn’t a fan of this beer when it was brewed in Leavenworth, but the Fish brewers have been working magic with the old recipes, it seems. A slight nose of smoke and a stronger flavor pays homage to the fires around Leavenworth that inspired this brew some time ago. I recall this beer as once looking like it was full of ash, but it’s cleared up now, and become a malty, citrusy, reddish creature out of the Nine Circles. It’s back... go get some at the Fishbowl!

Murky light brown. Slight iodine in the aroma with hints of earthy hop and chewy, caramelly malts. Moderate citrusy bitterness and lots of yeast hold sway over the light dark malt notes. Lacking focus.

(Draft: Fishbowl Brewpub in Olympia, WA) Very hoppy, very bitter, and fruity, but with a decent amount of moderately sweet malt behind it for some balance. Fairly strong grapefruit finish grabs onto the palate and refuses to let go. Some smokiness peaks out from time to time as well. Very hoppy nose with some citrus, but basically the nose shows less of a hops bomb than does the flavor. Medium "plus" bodied with a fairly substantial mouthfeel and long, bitter aftertaste. Ruddy amber color and slightly cloudy. Tan head has excellent retention, maintaining a thin, creamy layer, and leaves quite a bit of lacing. Very flavorful, but a bit too hopsy and bitter for me to drink more than one.

Clear dark red and burgundy color. High alcohol and very fresh and young tasting - hot even. Run-like, with scorching abrasive scotch and wood qualities. Some apple and pear bready malt flavors as well. An interesting brew, but way too hot. Finishes dry and sticky, and overall it’s good but has an underdeveloped nose.

(Draft) Pours out an orangish copper with a decent white head. Aroma of cascade hops citrus and a bit of sweetness also. Nice juicy hops upfront than a kick in the face with a bitterness that builds and lingers longer than you would expect. A really quite decent beer but they should bump up the malt a bit or to keep the body light cut down on the bittering hops to make this one great.

Whoaah...let me gather myself, my face has turned into a goddamed prune. Other than a big whiff of cascade hops the only thing this beer really provides your senses is a blast of intense bitterness. I wonder where the IBUs sit with this one. The intense grapfruit citrusy bitterness doesn't allow any space for the actual hop flavors to come through. A teeensy bit of malt makes a feeble attempt now and then at catching the attention of the consumer, but is drowned out by the screaming bitterness. I didn't finish the glass, and I'm a cheap bastard.

Had on tap at the Fishbowl Pub in Olympia. Found this to be very similar to the Hodgsons I had earlier. Just a little bit lighter in appearance. Same great hoppiness and strong finish.
