Commercial Description:
Friesian Pilsener is a pale golden colored lager, brewed to quench the summer thirst of the many worthy denizens of the Great Pacific Northwest. This Pilsener is medium bodied, brewed with a truly authentic Pilsener malt and a large percentage of Munich malt to create a beer with the classic German Pilsener character. In the traditional method, we have brewed this Leavenworth Beer with imported German and Czech hops for a crisp, assertive hop bitterness and aroma.

(Draft: Anthony’s in SeaTac Airport) This beer is supposed to resemble the hoppy pilseners of the Friesland region of Northern Germany, and there’s no question this is a hops dominated pilsener, perfect for the Pacific Northwest as well. The flavor is spicy, grassy and hoppy, mildly bitter, and the malts are very light with mild sweetness. The aroma is mostly a mildly spicy and crisp hoppiness, and a very light maltiness in the background, but overall, it’s not all that aromatic. Light bodied, clean, fairly crisp, and very refreshing on the palate. Pours a clear pale golden color with a tall white head that leaves a bit of lace at the top of the glass. Only the occasional carbonation bubble can be seen rising through the beer, the main knock on appearance for this pilsener. Pretty easy drinking beer, but with all the hops, this is not just another run-of-the-mill pilsener.

on tap at lucky labrador. good approximation of german lager. plenty of hallertau character, honeyed hay aroma and a metallic bitter finish. nice shade of light golden, just lacking character in the malt department

Blonde copper color with white sticky head & some lacing. The aroma is tart with lager 2-row and watery flavor. Medium bodied for the style & fruity for a lager. Finishes toasty & grassy.

Despite a trip to Leavenworth last Oktoberfest I hadn’t come upon the Pilsner until just recently at the Archer here in B’ham. Effectively European in nature: full bodied with an emphasis on grains, but the biting lager sensation was here a little bit. The beer doesn’t seem to fall into the overly fresh category, but relies a bit more upon flavor than many pilsners. A touch too grainy, but I like its distinctiveness.

Tap@Lucky Labrador. Pretty OK German style lager. Herbal, grassy hops, dry and bitter. A touch tinny and soapy.

Golden body with a slight hazy. Medium size white head. Nose is plain and flavour is malty and finish is hoppy and dry.
