Commercial Description:
This is a full-bodied, very pale and extremely hoppy version of the IPA style for which Pacific Northwest brewers are deservedly famous. The flavor is INTENSE with a dry roasted malt character overlaid by a very assertive hop bitterness and citrus aroma. Like all our Leavenworth beers, Hodgson's India Pale Ale is proudly unfiltered.

Hazy beige colour. Peachy, grapefruity and bitter. Lean body really highlights the grapefruit and is accented by light pale malt notes. Simple, but my kind of IPA.

on tap-pours a disappearing off white head that laces and cloudy amber color. Aroma is c hop, secondary medium malt. Taste is nice, c hop-some bitter, secondary medium malt-sweet. Sessionable. OK/mild carbonation.

Light sticky head, quickly dissipating with lots of lacing. Beige amber color, lightly hazy, low carbonation. The aroma is rather hoppy with a distinct PNW feel, a bit of caramel sweetness but rather dry. The flavor is hoppy, a bit too dry and unbalanced. Paired well with some spicy happy-hour tacos. Finishes more rounded but still one-dimensional overall. The hops are more citrusy than floral or herbal. Decent average PNW IPA.

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours a clear golden color with a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy citrus aroma with some floral hints. Sweetish malty bitter hoppy citrus flavor. Has a slightly sweetish malty hoppy bitter finish with some citrus hints in the aftertaste.

Seventh stop during the ABA Beer Tour ’07 in Olympia, Washington. Sampled on tap at the Fish Tale brewpub. Pours a cloudy golden amber brew with a thin white head that quickly dissolves to a white ring. Aroma of grapefruit, piney hops, caramel malt and a little Ivory soap. Taste is loaded with heavy grapefruit-ish flavor, medium bodied with light carbonation. Finish is not as heavy as the flavor but has a slow lingering citrusy aftertaste.

Tasted on tap at brewpub. This IPA pours a medium orange color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, citrus and floral hops. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet, touch of caramel. Hops are grapefruity and piney. A fairly bitter IPA, there are nice malt flavors in the background and at the finish, but the rest is all the hops. Fairly typical PNW IPA, lots of malts, and even more hops. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Had on tap at the Fishbowl Pub. Overall, an excellent IPA. Cloudy, murky nectar-like appearance. Has the patented cascade hopped west coast grapfruit twang. The aroma is citrusy with some floral notes. Very good crisp mouthfeel. Little bit of trivia - did you know that Hodgson was the inventor of the IPA (at least that is what the bartender at the Fishbowl Pub told me).

Cask. Another multiple tasting at the Calgary beer fest. Heavily hopped and unsettled made for a dirty orange drink. Some pours looked like butterscotch. A big hit with those looking for a flavourful beer. Dry hop flavour with just enough malt sweetness to keep moving. More than just hops.
