Commercial Description:
Oktoberfest is a pale amber colored ale, brewed to celebrate the beauty of the harvest season here in the Great Pacific Northwest. This beer is medium bodied, brewed with a large percentage of Munich malt for a smooth, malty flavor. In the classic German tradition, we have brewed this Leavenworth Beer with imported Tradition and Tettnanger hops for an authentic Oktoberfest hop aroma.

Draft at the Duck & Drake in Leavenworth. Pours a cloudy amber with a lacy white head. A big shot of fruit in the nose, along with some bready malt. Medium body and moderate carbonation. More fruit in the taste, along with some nuts and flowery/herbal hops. There seems to be a lot going on in this beer, and it’s almost chewy by comparison to the other Oktoberfest beers I’ve tried.

A very tasty beer...at first, which is why the palate score is so low. This beer could be called Dry Mouth Ale. The hops make your whole face pucker up, unfortunately. While it tastes delicious, it leaves you feeling like you ate a handful of sand. The Blind Pig Dunkel is a much better beer.

I have never felt as in the zone about a particular style as I did the day I had this Oktoberfest in Leavenworth...because it was Oktoberfest and this was one of many many different Oktoberfests I had that weekend. This was actually very strange...fairly hoppy and just reeking of grains, probably due in part to the unfiltered process. No real noticeable sweetness to the malt, mostly cereal-ish grains. Unbalanced and a bit difficult to get a handle on. A departure from the "easy drinking" european Oktoberfests, this seems to be an excellent start to a unique and tasty beer, but as is the case with many Leavenworth beers, this is just too confusing and unbalanced.

Autumn orange appearance with a splendid and refreshing balance of hops and malt in flavor and taste--but with the hops winning slightly. Similar to Mac and Jacks African Amber, but a bit lighter. Re-rated: 10-3-09. Toasty maltiness, but a bit lacking otherwise. Ok.
