Borresteijn (448), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 19, 2008 Very dark brown beer, beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, malts and chocolate, a bit musty. Flavour is very soft and sweet, malty, dark chocolate, ripe fruits. Nice slightly bitter finish. Creamy and soft mouthfeel. Very good beer! thegreenrooster (1480), St.louis, Missouri, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is very musty and earthy with some candi sugar and dark fruit. Flavor is some burnt brown sugar and dark fruit with a little vinegar. Finish is no problem as the flavors are somewhat dulled as this goes down. Still this is a somewhat tasty Belgian and something to at least try for the aroma alone. shendrix (435), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 14, 2008 Very nice beer, picked up in Bruges. Carmelized brouwn sugar, butterscotch, and a bit of smoky hops make up for an eminently drinkable brew. Pinball (353), Allerød, Denmark Aug 11, 2008 nice and quite balanced aroma. looks great, dark dark clear brown, light brown fine head. taste is sweet and "belgian" alc dominates more than neccessary, however, the rest is very well balanced. notalush (2009), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Aug 9, 2008 Pours a rich, dark red, with a frothy, lasting, 1-finger off-white head - the aroma is an interesting, complex, but soft mixture of overripe fruit sweetness, and lightly tart apple and cherry skins - a little bit of earth and must add depth - the flavor is a bit on the sweet side, with none of the tartness the aroma hints at - still, it isn’t bad - brown sugar, baked apples, raisins, and cherries are all in the mix to make things interesting - there is a tiny bit of the earthy character from the aroma present - dries out a little in the finish, as notes of cocoa become apparent - a little bit of alcohol heat on the back end - quite an understated brew - if the flavor were more like the aroma, it would be a home run.
