A deep brown hue with a foamy off-white head that left very good lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of Belgian dark sugar, caramel, grape, plum and prune esters, star anise, cardamom, and a hit of lactic acid. The taste starts with a twangy fruit presence over a layer of caramelized malt and candy sugar. There is a yeasty quality in midsection before wandering off towards a muddled and light-spiced ending. The mouth feel is lively and a tad chalky upon the finish. While not has complex or deep as the best of the genre this is still a very drinkable brew. jeg (115), Austin, Texas, USA

Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with some red highlights. Massive, tan colored sticky head clings to the chalice like a drowning man to a life preserver. Big malty aromas, mixed with raisins and dried fruit dominate the aromas. Flavors are of dried fruits, some spices, massive malts, some brown sugar & candied pears. Thick mouthfeel, rich & chewy. Fabulouso!

Sourish aroma awash with grape, apple, cherry, brown sugar, aniseed and bubblegum. Yeasty, herbal and headily alcoholic as it warms. Silky, sweetish, dubbel-like ale wth sourish fruity touches, chocolatey bready malt and a generous pinch of aniseed. joshwilfong (797), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Big grape and yeasty aroma...almost like grape bubblegum. It pours a hazy orangish-brown with a moderate beige head. The flavor starts with grape bubblegum with some light yeastiness in the background. The finish is floral with some hints of oxidation. It’s light-medium bodied with mild carbonation.
