Aroma is of light torrefied coffee, sweet sugar, and coriander. In mouth, a wonderful smooth licorice malt, with coffee, ligth chocolate, and sustained burned toast bitterness. Medium bodied. A very pleasant beer. From SAQ gift pack. Lot 06/2008. yespr (12406), Copenhagen O, Denmark

Yeasty spiced and roasted malt aroma. Complex spiced flavour, clear notes from the yeast but also roasted and somewhat herbal notes to. I sense some chocolate smoothness and some edge from a liqourice like note. Dry and again somewhat herbal finish.7-5-7-4-15=3.8

The aroma was sweet and sleightly vinouse, but overall very uncomplex compared to what i had expected. Somethimes it feels like these brews could use a few years in the celler. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Pours a dark mahogany brown with a light tan big pillowy head. Aroma of toast, caramel, maple, dried fruit, maybe a pinch of mint. Tastes of caramel, toast, gingerbread, figs, and pears with an underlying Belgian spice (nothing inherently unique to it though). Finishes pretty dry and toasty with an earthy, almost coffee like bitterness. Overly carbonated mouthfeel, I had swirl a lot of the CO2 out of this! Otherwise, it’s medium and pretty drinkable. No alcohol presence. Good stuff which does everything well, but plays it too safe for me. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2007 750ml from River City Cellars, Richmond. Very dark pour, somewhat unorthodox given the fruity flavors - coriander, citrus, and a hint of clove - in this one. A fairly modest mouthfeel, not quite a long enough finish and an attenuation of the flavors towards the end. Above average, but nothing spectacular.
