The star anise is there in the body but doesn’t dominate or cause offense. Yeasty character and plenty of spice and some chocolate. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Bottle. Chestnut body that looks quite clear, topped by a big, beige, lasting head. The aroma has lots of cellar, dominating the experience, and is backed by dried fruits and some hops. There’s too much cellar in the flavor as well, but it’s not as heavy as in the aroma. It’s followed by dried fruits, sugar, some tobacco and wee hints of alcohol. Sweet, warming, dusty, full-bodied mouthfeel, and finishing with raisins and sweetness. There was so much cellar present in this one that I had to double check the BB-date, but that was ok. Yet it is a decent beer. (070528) Cornfield (4954), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2007 Interesting. On the label it said this contained star anise and orange peel, but no one seemed to notice. Hmmm... It pours a dark mahogany highlighted in ruby and sports a fizz-based rocky beige head. There is some licorice in the nose, and the smell increases as the drink warms. The aroma also has dark stone fruits, molasses, lightly roasted malts, and a touch of toffee. (Didn’t catch the orange peel.) The mouthfeel is light and creamy, almost fluffy. The flavor is a smooth blending of lightly roasted malts, a quiet floral bitterness, molasses, nuts, and a subdued anise. Pretty good ale.

A great beer, superb balance between the alcohol and the taste. Enjoyit (1722), Vadum, Denmark
