Feinschmecker (176), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 15, 2009 Fruity yeasty apple aroma. Amber color. Spicy, malty bitter but light on the palate. The alcohol is definitely present. A little watery. Not the worst Belgium but no way near the best. Wombata (74), Kobe, Japan Oct 10, 2009 Appearance: Moderately transparent brown.
Aroma: Fragrant candy sugar, grilled tomato & celery, coriander, orange, roasted sweet caramel and honey.
Flavor: Charred grain, roasted/burnt caramel, "dried" orange malt (ie not fresh or juicy), spice/coriander, burnt caramel. Finishes with a sustained sweetness balanced by burnt caramel, orange malt and spice that eventually ends with bitter grapefruit rind.
Comment: Moderately complex. A nice relief from cheap adjunct filled Japanese lagers. beer4eternity (31), New Zealand Oct 5, 2009 330ml bottle, trappist glass, from de Bier Haus Tauranga. Red brown amber hue, light beige bubbly head quickly diminishing to a ring around the top, with minimal lacing. Complex mixture of sweet fruitiness - cherry, plum, banana, citrus, caramel, and spiciness - coriander and cloves. Kept smelling cheese - new to me for a beer aroma. Sweet fruity malty with bitter sweet finish, medium bodied, oily texture like a thin syrup. Enjoyed this more the first time I had it but still a good one though preferred the Leffe Blond. spkevin (56), Doetinchem, Netherlands Oct 3, 2009 bottle from my girlfriend. Good beer with the typical Leffe taste. The red ale smells good with hints of sweet fruits. Good sweet, bitter taste. Enjoyed it
OleR (2008), Oslo, Norway Oct 1, 2009 0.33 L bottle. Rocky white head with excellent laceworks. Bright, reddish-brown color. Peppery, caramellish malts and gently sweet fruits on the nose. Taste is bitter-sweet malty, has a fine spicy and earthy hop bitterness with notes of metal. A discreet fruitiness underneath. Well-bodied. Spiced, bitter-sweet ending. A pretty good one. mixos (50), Greece Sep 8, 2009 This reddish ale is really good. The whole situation of cherry and caramel that u could find out as you taste it will make u feel absolutely super. BeerChaser0078 (284), Melbourne, Australia Sep 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours a reddish amber with a beige head that quickly dissipates to a ring around the top. Aroma not that strong but nice; notes of toffee, honey and berries. These are also the main elements of the flavour with added brown sugar, cherries and a hint of alcohol. Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel and a little sourness on the finish. More well rounded than I remembered and overall very nice. davidm (126), Melbourne, Australia Sep 5, 2009 Bottle 330 ml. Nice and sweet Leffe. Aroma is caramel, grain, and dark fruits. Tastes sweet through, with just a bit of bitterness. Colour is amber dark, with a lasting head of average size. Medium bodied, with oily texture.
