Sweet, cakily malty nose. Opens with a lick of copper penny but develops some cardboard and alcohol. Kind of a turbocharged Belgian John Smith’s. Horribly thin, tinny and papery on top a Tripel Karmeliet. lightweight and characterless for the ABV. But have drank it before and enjoyed it. On this showing, very disappointing. Reddish chestnut with a thick white head; rich aroma of candied fruit, alcohol and malt; nutty and caramel flavours, with a long fruity and slightly bitter finish; alcohol rather too obvious for my taste. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2007 Bottled at Sicosis Pours a beautiful, clear dark ruby/brown color. Head is medium, white and creamy. It leaves a gorgeous lacing.
Aroma is strong with a malty/yeasty character with lots of fruity smells. There are notes of berries, chestnuts, peanut butter, plums and a lot of caramel. Well balanced and interesting.
Flavor is bittersweet, fantastic, nutty and caramelly hints and some light herbal, grassy touches complemented by a nice alcoholic kick. Not extreme but very classy.
Body is medium with an oily texture. Carbonation is low which leaves space for the flavors to shine. Nice, mildly alcoholic finish. The best Leffe i’ve tasted.
