sunevdj (1765), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Nov 8, 2005 Updated: Dec 30, 2005Pours a dark amber with an off-white somewhat dissappearing head. Some lacing. Sweet and quite dry. Flavors of caramel, malt, prunes and some alcohol. Sharp fruitiness that lingers with the bitter-dry finish. KarmanGhia (276), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Nov 5, 2005 Updated: Jan 31, 2006This pours a dark amber to cherry color with a large, off-white head and a lot of carbonation manifested in oversized bubbles. The nose is standard strong Belgian fare - the alcohol is fairly prevalent, and there are hints of grain and saltiness - but his beer has a bit of a fruity hint in the nose also. The taste consistes mostly of a strong punch of alcohol upfront, but it is followed mostly by grains and slight hints of caramel and fruit In fact, the absence of fruit in the palate is more surprising than any presence that I could find Overall, this is a fine brew, but it is certainly nothing to rave about. johninmelb (688), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Oct 27, 2005 Smell is kinda sharp with berry fruit. Colour is dark with a very persistant, creamy head. Taste lingers well with elements of berry and fig and hints of licorice. Another well realised Leffe beer. voota (761), Melbourne, Australia Oct 18, 2005 Updated: Jan 2, 2007Copper in colour, with a light brown head. Huge caramel aroma, with some fruitiness also. Palate was drier than I expected, and the alcohol was well hidden. Sweet finish with some mild alcohol. Very nice 15/20
Re-rate, nothing like i remember... drier dusty aroma, old flavour... slightly metallic and stale 13/20 Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Oct 16, 2005 33 cl bottle. No yeast in bottom. Dark amber colour with a rocky white head. Nice complex aroma of wheat and dried fruit. Great complex and spicy flavour. The alcohol is well hidden. Definately the best Leffe. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Oct 7, 2005 Bottle (from Sainsburys). Fruity with dark sugar notes and belgian yeast. Fairly sweet without much balance. Interesting to start with but ultimately disappointing. scotty (828), Scotland Oct 5, 2005 A very disappointing attempt from Leffe. Short lived, both on aroma and in flavour. Blonde & brune are much better, OK I appreciate this is a different style, but it delivered very little. Fine Wine Shop, Musselburgh. Nekronos (2261), Xalapa, Mexico Oct 4, 2005 Updated: Feb 7, 2006It was not that great, I preferedd the Leffe Brune, but anyway, it was good, and the colour was great, it is like the Gouden Carolus.
