Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England Nov 29, 2004 Bottled. Amber, brownish colour with foaming head. Sweet and sour flavour. Rustic and sweet, toffee malt tang throughout. Kind of like Silks description of Tea flavour. Dorqui (1353), Brescia, Italy Nov 23, 2004 Dark and diamond. It’s not sure my best king. Bitter with sentore of wood and syrup. ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia Nov 21, 2004 Updated: Jul 8, 2005Tasted from the bottle, a little over date. Poured quite clear, brown with a red tinge. Head formed from the pour, white and large, but died back to a lace ring quickly. Aroma was intense, with esters of plums and berries, and a heavy burnt-sugar waft. Taste was similar, balancing the aroma. Candy sugar, burnt coagulated sugars, and esters of dried light fruits filled the mouth and finished with a slightly bitter astringent swallow. The sense of alcohol, though, was overwhelming, with a warming sensation like sherry or port that just didn’t sit right. Still not too bad a drop. JayBaxter (386), Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Nov 20, 2004 Updated: Jan 20, 2006This is the 2nd of my Leffe marathon and very bloody good it is too!!Really rich red colour and a good frothy head.Creamy orange taste,I think it hides its alcohol well, just the kind of beer for a wintery night! JackPumpkin (1), San Diego, California, USA does not count Oct 12, 2004 Pours orange/amber with medium low head. Aromas of spice and fruit esters with subtle malt in background. Flavors of clove, bubblegum, malt with a warming finish from the 8.2%. Good head retention. Carbonation lends to creamy mouthfeel. Bottle in good condition from Belgian Shop. Aldrighetti (162), Coltura, Italy Oct 10, 2004 (Bottle) Brown with orange shine, clear body, yellowish head, glass sticking. Very perfumed, like a sixteen y.o. girl on saturday night, raisin, orange, "egg bread" soaked in marsala, cherry jam, weak vanilla. Taste is sweet, with note of citrus, caramel, a bit flat. Warming, full body, taste and palate without surprise, not very original. Pleasant without soul. haddonsman (1234), Derby, Derbyshire, England Sep 27, 2004 Bottled. Dark red-amber with coffee froth head. Spicy, winter fruit aroma albeit fairly subtle, restrained and alluring rather than overpowering. Malty, warm, soothing fruit, enjoyable but I’ve had better. harvey (40), Milano, Italy Sep 20, 2004 Dark amber/brown in colour with a thin head of low persistence. Very malty both in aroma and in flavour. Hints of caramel and raisins in the nose. A little fruity in the mouth, sweet. Hop and alcohol not evident. Quite honest abbey ale.
