JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Sep 17, 2004 Bottle from Onlyfinebeer. Poured a clear dark amber colour, with a good, just off-white head. Aroma is fresh and spicey with some background sweet maltiness. Interesting taste; malty, fruity, lightly roasted. The flavour seems to go through distinct and quite different phases, a little disjointed perhaps; taste is perhaps at its most enjoyable near the end. Nice sweet and slightly bitter aftertaste. Full bodied, creamy and smooth. It’s growing on me as I type. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium Sep 1, 2004 Old brown color with shine of red exotic wood and bone like colored head. Nose of Pear stuffed in red wine, cinnamon, light roasted malts and cheep Port. It has a medium taste with some roundness. In the afthertaste there is some maltyness with candy sugar, dried sultanas and an unineresting bitterness that stays too long on the pallet. Stew41 (1042), Caulfield, Australia Aug 27, 2004 Pours a fluffy head but disapates quickly. Chocolate brown hue, ever so slightly cloudy. Quite lifted nose with some sweet, spicy almost cinammon notes. Nice mouthfeel, plenty of fizz early but disappears at the back. Fairly sweet palate, thickens a little but nevery cloys. Good length and carries the 8.2% with ease. No heat to speak of. Like the stablemate Vieille Cuvee a sipper (ie one bottle a session) drink but to my mind a better drop. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Aug 17, 2004 Rating 609 Bottle from Pitfield Beer Shop, London. 330ml. Served in a Leffe glass. Rich red colour, clear (not bottle conditioned), fluffy white head. Aroma is fruity, smoky and perhaps yeasty (reminds me of Delerium Tremens). Creamy & malty. Smoke, pepper, spice with fruit a perhaps a slight wheat character?. Tasty. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Aug 12, 2004 33 cl bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.2%. Large thick head, clear reddish brown colour. Surprisingly weak aroma, but what there is, is pleasant: Ripe and dried fruits, just a faint hint of barnyard. Flavour has malts and spices and a great deal of alcoholic warmth. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Aug 12, 2004 bottled brussels:
pours brown amber with tan bubbly head. more effervesence then others in this class. nose very sweet some alcohol notes. mouth feels bubbly and sweet malt toffee. the other leffes ive had were much more enjoyable. stick with what you know dammit. Pimgref (84), Gorinchem, Netherlands Aug 3, 2004 Nice fruity beer with good oak brown looks and colourful aroma. I think I like the dubbel slightly better. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 14, 2004 Updated: Jan 21, 2005Red, brown color. Sweet, fruity, malty aroma and taste. medium body, nice finish.
