SimonLarsen (210), Sydney, Australia Feb 21, 2004 Updated: Mar 12, 2004My favorite leffe. Never seems to be on tap and I have to go the brune. This is the big brother, stronger aroma spicy with a hint of green banana. Bitter finish which hides the alcohol a lot but isn't as subtle as could be hoped for. It's nice and it's cheap for the style here. I just wish that some of the sweet malt beginning could have been carried to the end. I'd drink a lot more of these then. Dixen (1465), Flagstaff, Arizona, USA Feb 15, 2004 Some malt and sourness in the nose. Medium, but fast disappearing head. Beautiful amber colured body. Malty taste first, but ends in a rather bitter finish. Quite carbonated, but not that nice warm feel you get from other belgian ales. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Feb 9, 2004 A nice dark amber color, clear for a Belgian. Small head but good lacing. Has that fruit filled pastry scent common with Belgians. Like an apple cinnamon danish with almond slices sprinkled over it. A warming spicyness on the lips, like biting a slice of fresh ginger. Sweet but not cloying. All said, it's a solid brew. fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA Feb 4, 2004 Ranks as possibly the first Belgian I ever laid my lips on. Picture a young Texan at picnic in the hillcountry circa 1985 with 50 gallon trashcan filled with ice and imports. Somehow I was prepared for it, even if my tulip glass was late in coming. Friends have long held that Leffe is middle of the road for Belgian ales. Guess I would go along with that. But damn, those Belgians sure know how to pave their roads. Jeppe (2638), Řlbutikken, Denmark Jan 30, 2004 Updated: Apr 12, 2004Medium head, amber colored body. Typical Leffe yeast (I think Leffe uses the same yeast for all their beers...) aroma with malt and hay tones. Quite spicy flavor with malt, caramel and fruit. Bitter finish. I do have some difficulties with Leffe.... obxdude10 (1546), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2004 Amber in color, nice off-white head, sugar candy-type nose, nicely balanced, medium-full body, very complex flavors, a very different tasting beer, lots of sweet maltiness, a hint of dryness in the finish, a very different but good strong ale
chriso (4683), London, Greater London, England Jan 9, 2004 Bottled. Amber/tawny colour. Rather odd candyfloss/bubblegum aromas when first poured but this settles down after standing for a few minutes and making way for wine/sherry notes with some volatile acidity. Sweet malt on the tongue but balanced by a sourish/bitter edge developing towards the finish. Surprisingly dry aftertaste. Not a bad beer - definitely the best of the Leffe family - but rather straightforward for a beer of this strength.
radiomgb (1921), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Dec 26, 2003 Deep amber in colour, creamy beige head. Aroma was slightly sweet, caramel, cream and yeast. Flavour was sweet, some malt, smooth and full bodied. Finish is very smooth with a mild bitterness.
