Malty and fruity, winter fruits, sherbert, caramel and strong nose. Mouth is more malty and caramel, some alcohol, sharpness, then some bitter relaxed palate. OK, good, little sweet. probstk (1064), Nepean, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 18, 2007 Updated: Apr 14, 200833 cl bottle from Bieropholie, served just above cellar temp. in a tulip glass.
App.: Medium copper, small light tan head, clear, some lacing.
Aroma: Very sweet – plenty of candy sugar, stone fruits and dried fruits, a bit of chocolate, some alcohol and wood, a little yeasty; hints of “warm” spices – clove stands out; dry, dusty hops.
Palate: Medium bodied, almost no carbonation, silky and smooth.
Flav.: Brown sugar, burnt sugar, some stone fruit, burnt raisins (really), some yeast, a touch of wood and spice; definite bitterness to finish and a touch of alcohol.
Where’d that bitterness come from?? The nose gave NOTHING away. Doesn’t seem to fit, somehow... Stew41 (1054), Caulfield, Australia
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2004 Pours a fluffy head but disapates quickly. Chocolate brown hue, ever so slightly cloudy. Quite lifted nose with some sweet, spicy almost cinammon notes. Nice mouthfeel, plenty of fizz early but disappears at the back. Fairly sweet palate, thickens a little but nevery cloys. Good length and carries the 8.2% with ease. No heat to speak of. Like the stablemate Vieille Cuvee a sipper (ie one bottle a session) drink but to my mind a better drop. Yves (1035), Beerse, Belgium
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 8, 2008 Clear dark amberish coloured beer sith small off-white head. Nice central carbonation. Fruity, malty (little yeast) aroma. Full little creamy palate. Malty ending finishing off bitter, nicely balanced though. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 9, 2004 A nice dark amber color, clear for a Belgian. Small head but good lacing. Has that fruit filled pastry scent common with Belgians. Like an apple cinnamon danish with almond slices sprinkled over it. A warming spicyness on the lips, like biting a slice of fresh ginger. Sweet but not cloying. All said, it's a solid brew. Defreni (1024), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2008 Flaske. Flot mørk ravfarvet øl. Intet bundfald men en kraftig duft af malt. Smagen er frugtig maltet på en særdeles fyldig måde. Virkelig flot øl, med et strejf af kanel til sidst i smagen. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia
