Ranks as possibly the first Belgian I ever laid my lips on. Picture a young Texan at picnic in the hillcountry circa 1985 with 50 gallon trashcan filled with ice and imports. Somehow I was prepared for it, even if my tulip glass was late in coming. Friends have long held that Leffe is middle of the road for Belgian ales. Guess I would go along with that. But damn, those Belgians sure know how to pave their roads.

Clear, brown-reddish body. Brownish head, creamy, mostly diminishing and good lacing. Hoppy, malty (chocolate) aroma. Sweet initial falvour, lightly sweet, lightly bitter finish.

A beutiful red beer with a wonderful head. It has a sweet aroma of fruits. And a sweet tickling taste of flowers and fruit. It ends of on a slight bitter note. You do not taste the alcohol content - a very nice beer.

Bottle@Home. Malty aroma mixed with raisin and some caramel. Amber colour, beige irregular head, fair lace. Malty, sweet, fruity, light bitter, strong caramel, herbal. More bitter in the finish. Medium body.

Light brown colour with beige firm head. Fruity aroma with herbs. Fruity flavor with yeasty tone. Almonds and alcohol. Spicy with firm bitterness. After maturing for two years the aroma has developed a more fruity tone of apples and brown sugar. A bit rubbery with sourish notes. The flavor is malty and fuity with sweetness and nuts. Still only an OK beer.

Raisin and apple in the aroma. Sweet taste with alcohol and a slight sourness. Vinous and raisinny. Some roasted malt. Almost woody aftertaste.
