Commercial Description:
Asylum is in the style of a Belgian Tripel. It has a beautiful golden color. Its relatively light body is deceiving for a beer of its character. It has a sweet and spicy, complex fruity aroma and flavor derived from our distinct Belgian yeast strain. Asylum finishes with a subtle, warming character to help you relax on any night. Asylum is an exceptionally smooth Belgian-style brew. Drinking great beer brings the world together. “Vrede op aarde” (Peace on earth).

Courtesy hopscotch. Pours a crystal clear, copper orange color, with a big, frothy, light tan head. Smells of Belgian candy sugar, spices, and sweet malts all mixed together, with a little wave of alcohol as well. The flavor seemed incredibly spicy to me, with the alcohol presence up in front. Seemed to drown out the candy sugar and sweetness of the brew for the most part. got some sweet molasses-like flavors in the finish and aftertaste. I really dont know if I like this or not right now. Pretty complex, but maybe a touch to spicy for me for this style.

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, amber body with a thin, bubbly, white head. Smell: Honey and candi sugar lusciously coat a lightly biscuity maltiness. Supporting notes of alcohol-soaked fruits and light spice. Taste: Sweet, lightly bready, lightly biscuity maltiness. Make that quite sweet, actually, with a definite candi sugar quality to it. A few drops each of Peach and Pear liqueur. Light spice hints from the Belgian yeast. Fruity, warming finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Fairly smooth mouthfeel overall. Drinkability: The heavy sweetness coupled with the relatively low carbonation have this one bordering on being a cumbersome experience. Still though, for an American-born tripel, it’s above average.

Bottle. Pours a golden amber. Aroma more funky than fruity, wonder if I got a good one or not. Very smoothe taste, fruit is there, but is overriden by the yeast. Definitely warming and boozy. Good beer. I’ll have another...

Pours a nice orange with a bubbly white head. Aroma is malt, esthers, yeasts, caramel, biscuit, honey and fruit. Flavor is yeast, malt, coriander, esthers, spices, biscut, caramel. Touch of bitterness in the finish. Decent Tripel, but a little messy and cloying.

Pours a transparent orange copper with a well-lacing frothy white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity toasty malt and some light fruity esters. Starts with good fullness and sweet light fruity esters with nice toasty caramel notes. Finishes drier and semi-sweet with some lingering fruity character and warmth. A pretty good abbey tripel.

Bottle from stefanje I think. Pours a orangish color wtih a white head. Aroma is sweet, very sweet with caramel malt, sugar, honey, yeast and fruit. It is sweet as hell but somehow it doesnt overpower the beer. Upon the first sip I thought the sweetness was going to ruin the beer, but it actually works well. I was surprised how much I enjoyed sipping this until the glass was empty.

Crystal clear amber with a white head. Nice malty sweet aromas of bubblegum, cotton candi, with apple sauce and cinnamon. Smooth medium body. Very good earthy mango and light pit fruit flavors with spicy yeasts. A most tasty tripel, one of the best from the West.
