Commercial Description:
Here at Left Coast Brewing Co. we pride ourselves on being one of the first breweries to pioneer a Double IPA style beer. In 2003, we brewed our first Double IPA, and haven’t looked back since. This hop monster uses Premium American 2- Row and a touch of light crystal malt to create a solid malt foundation. The recipe calls for hops to be used in every step of the brewing process; in the mash, in a hop back, in the fermenter, and in the bright tanks. We use hop extract, hop pellets and hop flowers, hence the name Hop Juice. Hop Juice spends more than 4 weeks dry hopping in the fermenter and the bright beer tank. It is approximately 9.4% abv and has massive IBUs. Hop usage is over 4lbs per barrel. Hopeheads, step up to the plate! Bottle.

Pours relatively light in color, a rich yellow rather than deep red amber with a nice head and great lacing. Malty nose, almost barleywine-like, but an unmistakable IIPA flavor in the Ruinition kick-your-teeth-in vein, tons of pithy grapefruit, resiny, powerful , quite ample sugary malts underneath, not over-roasted but just strong as well. Pretty darn nice, but this one would not be an everyday drinker for me even if it were available locally. Not to worry, Pliny.

I really like this hoppy beer. It has a tremendous amount of hops and the aroma is to die for.

Getting notebook online. Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light orange. Sweet orange on the nose. Flavors very orange and pine. Mouthfeel a bit too sticky, intense bitter finish.

Bottle thanks to Hophead22, Cheers. Poured nice golden orange with not much head. Aroma was citrus, caramel, pine, and a little musty. Taste was hops, citrus, caramel, pine, and and very bitter. The bitterness makes this brew off balanced and not very enjoyable.

Slightly hazy dark golden. Medium head. Nice mix of citrus hops and, well, more hops. Bitterness comes on pretty strong and doesn’t let up. Unique but overly hopped double IPA. Very little sweetness and minimal trace of alcohol for 9.4%. All about the bitterness in this one; not even close to balanced.

Pours a golden color with slight orange hue, and fizzy white head. This is a dysfunctional IIPA. Aroma of sweet caramel and sugar and lots of hops, but they don’t fit together. The flavor is a bit better... caramel malt, biscuits, sweet candy sugar, then a sharp bitting hop presence, almost gives off a metallic tastes. A little bit earthy, but mostly like licking a battery.

In short: A sweet yet dry and dusty IIPA with many things wrong with it. A big disappointment
How: Bottle 22oz, from doubleo, thanks a lot Kyle
The look: Cloudy orange topped by a small white head
In long: Strong nose, hoppy yes, but also a bit off, it has those unpleasant notes that I can only describe as urinal. Taste is aggressive. Very sweet but lacking luscious caramel, instead it has a lot sugary candy sweetness. Hard-candies, some dry caramel and “sucre à la crème” attack followed by a sharp abrupt flavourless bitterness. Some band-aid. From beginning to end I was also getting this dry cedar, dust and sweat (!!) sensation. Alcohol very much apparent. I don’t know if I got a bad bottle or if this is another over-hyped extra strong beer but this thing had more problems that qualities. To say I expected a lot more from well-rated beer is quite an understatement. I hope this was a bad bottle. I was as disappointed as the last girl who went out on a blind-date with me.

Zeeland 08’ tasting. Poured orange from the bomber. Aroma was tangerine and sweet malt. Taste was light orange, with a malty sweetness balancing the pine. Solid and tasty.
