Commercial Description:
Here at Left Coast Brewing Co. we pride ourselves on being one of the first breweries to pioneer a Double IPA style beer. In 2003, we brewed our first Double IPA, and haven’t looked back since. This hop monster uses Premium American 2- Row and a touch of light crystal malt to create a solid malt foundation. The recipe calls for hops to be used in every step of the brewing process; in the mash, in a hop back, in the fermenter, and in the bright tanks. We use hop extract, hop pellets and hop flowers, hence the name Hop Juice. Hop Juice spends more than 4 weeks dry hopping in the fermenter and the bright beer tank. It is approximately 9.4% abv and has massive IBUs. Hop usage is over 4lbs per barrel. Hopeheads, step up to the plate! Bottle shared with Jerc, Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and Mabel, courtesy of Jerc. Mild hop aroma - soapy. Some fruit and malt. Dark yellow, small white head. Huge hop taste - there better be with a name like Hop juice! - tons more in finish. A good DIPA, one dimensional but I really didn’t care - I was in the mood for hops and this delivered.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of fordest. Hazy, amber golden with a creamy, off-white head. Aroma of peachy hops and caramel. Quite full-bodied with plenty of sweet caramel and fruit. Distinct bitter finish with a solid alcohol burn. 190408

One dimensional hop precence... needs some variety or pairing with some fruity flavors. More hops than malts, nice hazy orange color with beige lasting head. A tad watery for its kind, very astringent and bitter... needs a bit of a sweet kick to balance out. But it does what its names says "hop juice" thats about it.

Draught; apparently from Oggis San Clemente. Marks for Appearance are an average, as beer was sampled in weak artificial light after dark. Orange marmalade hops in a rather astringent nose. Hopcake (another!), very bitter, quinine-like, vegetable bitterness. Nearly puckeringly dry, medium bodied. Talk about "over the top"...

Bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of jerc. Pours a cloudy orange-amber with an average size diminishing bubbly white head. Aroma of caramel malt, less hops then I expected, some fruit and just a touch of alcohol. Nice, interesting flavour starts malty but then hits you with a hop medley (resin, citrus & pine) and a big, long, slightly alcoholic bitter finish. Pretty dry stuff. Medium bodied. I quite enjoyed this.

Bottle. Hazy amber coloured with a small off white ehad. Fruity aroma of spices and yeast with notes of citrus. Sweet flavour of fruits, caramel, yeast, hops and pine needles with notes of cardemomme. Hoppy and spicy finish.

Blind tasting at Papsoes place, another great session, thanks Henrik! Beer #15: Pours hazy orange with a fully diminished white head. Dry pine and woody hops aroma. Flavour is solid woody and hops. Light liqourice note. Ends with a light sweet caramel malt base complimenting the dry and slight liqourice hops note on top.

# 15 Bottle. [Papsoe’s great blind tasting, thanks Henrik!] Small fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Hazy amber color with particles in flow. Aroma of fruit, spice, toasted malt, some underlying floral hoppy feel. Over the palate came heavy hoppy notes with pine, grapefruit, wood, alcohol. Full bodied with an average carbonation and heavy dry texture. Moderated bitter and good counter sweetness. Dry bitter lingering finish. Think it might be a D-IPA or a heavy hopped Barley Wine. 8-3-8-4-16 = 3.9 19-04-2008
