Commercial Description:
Here at Left Coast Brewing Co. we pride ourselves on being one of the first breweries to pioneer a Double IPA style beer. In 2003, we brewed our first Double IPA, and haven’t looked back since. This hop monster uses Premium American 2- Row and a touch of light crystal malt to create a solid malt foundation. The recipe calls for hops to be used in every step of the brewing process; in the mash, in a hop back, in the fermenter, and in the bright tanks. We use hop extract, hop pellets and hop flowers, hence the name Hop Juice. Hop Juice spends more than 4 weeks dry hopping in the fermenter and the bright beer tank. It is approximately 9.4% abv and has massive IBUs. Hop usage is over 4lbs per barrel. Hopeheads, step up to the plate! On tap at the Orange location. I was expecting an overhopped glass of yard clippings, but what I got was a flavorful, sweet, hoppy treat. Kinda heavy on the tongue, but it washed away nicely with a mild, sweet malty finish. Well done.

Bottled - bronze in color, wispy suds atop. Thick nose of caramelized hops and alcohol. Syrupy thick mouthfeel, alcohol heat...sweet bitter ending...one of those syrupy & heavy IPAs that simply lacks any fresh flavors to balance it out.

22. Thanks, Footy! Pours deeply murky coppery dark amber. Thickish sudsy tan/sherbety-colored head. Very forward fruit flavors off the hops: grapefruit and pineapple in abundance. Also a sour note in the nose, maybe a malt thing (acidulated?). Big body, tingly carb, sharply biting forward pine. Fruity/candied mid-palate. Finish is awash in a creosotey nip.

Bottled version, clean and clear brass color with some thin lace and an even head that dissipates after a few minutes. Aroma is composed mainly of pine resin, butterscotch, caramel, toasted wheat bread and grapefruit. Dry hopping is substantially evident here. Good depth to the malt character with citrus notes. Syrupy caramel malt comes in a little too strong and competes with the bitterness too much. Warming alcohol nearly overwhelms the palate but the hops rounds out a good bitter stain on the tongue. Could be more balanced. Enjoyable though as an impy.

Huge citrus, wet hop aroma. Taste is all orange and smooth/sweet goodness. Very nice retention of head, with a sweet/bitter hop lingering yummy finish.

Full orange body, nice initial head on both pours, a pretty looking dIPA ready for my quaffing. The aroma was full citrus hops, pine, and a light caramel malts. The flavor had a full caramel, almost fruity malt base (melons) with a grainy full texture. Sweet in many ways for a dIPA, but this one avoided the syrupey mouthfeel, almost a graininess to it as the piney citrus hops come to the fore on every sip. Full mouthfeel, hearty, enjoyable. A nice grab from Topps in Tempe.

22 oz bomber, no freshness date. ABV on my sample is listed @ 9.4%

Hazy orange, thin head, no retention, not much in the way of lace.

Aroma is scorched caramel, earthy hops, some citrus.

Flavor is sweet caramel up front with a grapefruit pith finish.

Alcohol is a bit hot going down.

Balanced for the most part, does get a little sticky as it warms, and the hops get a little muddled, but it’s not bad.
