Commercial Description:
Here at Left Coast Brewing Co. we pride ourselves on being one of the first breweries to pioneer a Double IPA style beer. In 2003, we brewed our first Double IPA, and haven’t looked back since. This hop monster uses Premium American 2- Row and a touch of light crystal malt to create a solid malt foundation. The recipe calls for hops to be used in every step of the brewing process; in the mash, in a hop back, in the fermenter, and in the bright tanks. We use hop extract, hop pellets and hop flowers, hence the name Hop Juice. Hop Juice spends more than 4 weeks dry hopping in the fermenter and the bright beer tank. It is approximately 9.4% abv and has massive IBUs. Hop usage is over 4lbs per barrel. Hopeheads, step up to the plate! Bottle. Aroma of pine, citrus, some grass, grapefruit, all the hop notes you would want. Flavor continues the lovely, resinous hop notes with a semi-toasty, semi-sweet malt backbone, more than a backbone really, a big, strong malt, but one that does not get too sweet to detract from the hops. Very nice.

Pours amber, very clear with no head... The movement of the beer in the glass seems very very heavy... Nice aroma of pine and citrus with notes of tropical fruits as well... Tastes of citrus, pine, alcohol under a creamy thick sticky full bodied warming body... Nice beer, though sometimes the line is being blurred between hoppy barleywine and double ipa...

Bottle. Pours a clear orange with a thick off white head. Aroma of grassy hops and nice cracker malt. Flavor is nice and malty with grassy hops. An alright IIPA, would have liked more citrus. The hop profile wasn’t my favorite, but this was a decent beer. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)

pors a ruby-amber color with a thin white head. aroma is of big, sweet citrusy hops...pungent pineapple, grapefruit, and grass. flavor is much like the aroma suggests...sweet pineapple first then grapefruit and a mild spice with a tealike finish. mouthfeel is syrupy and a bit too sticky and has a warming alcohol affect.

Draft: pour was amber with frothy white head, aroma of hops, citrus, taste was mostly hops with some citrus, solid but no real balance...probably was their intent.

On tap at Capones. Poured orange amber with a creamy off-white head. Smelled of pine and grapefruit; quite nice. Flavor was sweet pine, grapefruit, and resin. Carbonation punctuates the initial coniferous taste and mellows out into a oily finish. Overall this one is pretty good but not as balanced as some other west coast Imperial IPAs.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, resin, wood, citrus, hop oil, and caramel malts. Poured amber in color with a large, creamy, dense, rocky, off-white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Excellent lacing coats the entire glass. Flavor is lightly sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of hops, pine, resin, hop oil, slight tropical fruit, caramel, slight graham, malts, light biscuit, and a slight hint of wood. Medium body. Creamy, thickish, sticky, texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, hoppy, caramel and resin finish.

Pours clear and golden with a bright white head. Aroma had a nice hop base, with a little sweetness and some piney notes. Flavor to match with an underlying maltiness to balance things out. Not overly bitter.
