Pure copper @ lovibond 10, thick fluffy white head, perfect lacing. Thick piney resinous aromatics in the nose. Huge malty backbone in flavor enters a spectrum of hop flavors accentuated by pine and citrus. Not excessively bitter, full of flavor and finishes with a mildly alcoholic bite. Its medium to full on the palate, chewy and is slightly sticky. I loved it so much I got a keg. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA

My goodness, I picked up sweet candied grapefruit cake in the aroma and flavor. Also candied oranges! Wow! I have never experianced a beer like this ever. It’s so fun to drink and evaluate. It poured a beautiful hazy dark gold. With a nice medium off white head that sticks around with some nice lace. The nose is so stong with candied grapefruit. In the flavor is very nice with bitterness and candied resinous hop grapefruit. The mouthfeel is smooth and a dry finish. So much fun to drink. ghawener (963), San Salvador, El Salvador

Lo siento Ramenen, no me aguanté y me la tomé. Te llevo otras para compensar! Food Pairing: Enjoy by itself, it’s food enough. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

I love this beer. I wonder if I could marry it?
On tap @ Oggis Santee. Pours a clear gold with off white head and white foam lacing. The aroma is both sweet caramelized malts and freshly picked citrus hops. Wow, I mean wow! The taste starts off sweet and chewy to almost sticky malt goodness before the hops enter with a smooth blend of grapefruit hop bitterness, hints of floral hops and pine hop bitterness. Then I get a nice late addition hop sweet orange juice flavor mixing wonderfully with the malts. The malts also bring forth mild caramel candy goodness and toffee. This beer is big hops backed up by wonderfully rich and varied maltiness. The late addition hops and hop complexity really work for me. The flavor is near perfect. There is a slightly buttery – breadiness that adds an extra level of flavor that really complements the experience. A bit bigger aroma and this would be my number one beer. Why can’t this beer be something I can quaff just down the street like the way the San Diego crew has it? I should move. SDalkoholic (1196), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 6, 2005 On tap: Appeared to look a ordinary gold color but with a thick and pleasant topping of head. Flavor was dominated with pure hops. Intensely bittering with a little bit of sweetness also. Aroma was hoppy and floral with signs of grapefruit and pine. I had no idea this was an imperial double IPA when i was drinking it, but now i see why it was so bold and strong. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 23, 2004 This simply kicked ass. One of the better Double IPA’s I had in San Diego. A very strong citrus and alcohol nose. Extremely bitter and lemoney with a huge dose of pine. This one was very complex and a treat for the hopheads. Oh yeah! | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 1, 2004 Lovely crimson/peach coloring, transparent, pleasing to the eye, with a flush head, thick, proud, and creamy, very inviting, I’m going in...
ahhh, big, fresh citric hops...WOW! Melon, and grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, a bit of mango and even guava, what the hey! Mmmm, this is nice!
Ahhh...very delicious.
On the palate, in the mouth, it’s a melange of bitterness, juicyness, extravagant hoppitude...I’ll take it slow for more quiet consideration...Big bitter hoppiness, but well matched by luscious, thick, sweet malt. This is a well-put-together product, and other opinions I’ve scanned regarding any lack of balance are without merit, by my eye. You want a really hoppy, really juicy, spicy IPA, but with sufficient malt to back it up, further aiding the flavor? This is that! Hey, it even reminds me of Masala Mama, and that’s saying something!
This is very nice, and gets better with every sip and swallow, has a bright, coppery feel, replete with fruity, hoppiness that pleases my tongue to no end!
