On draft at Left Hand during GABF 2009. Pours a clear dark brown with reddish highlights and one finger tan head. Aroma is chocolate, malt, caramel, nuts, light spice. Flavor is much of the same with a slightly smoky and burnt toast taste. Light body with a malty finish. Interesting.

Light malt aroma, no hop notes. .. . Dark brown, clear with a short-lived head. .. . Malty, yet watery. No Hops. Definitely light.. .. Light body, medium carbonation. .. . A ’dark light’ beer. Pretty good mild ale.

Draught at the Left Hand Tap House. Beer’s a very dark brown with an average-sized, frothy, white, creamy head that’s mostly and quickly diminishing. The aroma is roasty, but otherwise plain. Malty with light-to-moderate notes of roasted grain, chocolate and a light note of molasses; Hoppy with a light-to-moderate herbal note; Trace miscellaneous note of green olive/brine, light notes of plum and top soil. The flavor was moderately sweet, moderately acidic, trace bitter with a short, trace acidic, lightly bittersweet finish. Roasty retros, trace feeling of astringency on the gums. The body was light-to-medium, the texture was velvety and the carbonation was lively.

Draught (cask) at Left Hand in Longmont. Pours nut brown with a tiny rocky tan head quickly resolving to some minor spotty lacing. Sweet caramel malt and fuit hop aromas with hints of bread-like sweet yeast. Sour fruit hop and caramel malt flavor with just a hint of light chocolate. Medium bodied and smooth palate.

Draught. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium brown. Aroma is lightly matly (roasted nuts, caramel), lightly hoppy (resin), lightly yeasty (dough), with a hint of bubble gum. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Very indistinct, uninteresting aroma that made it difficult to establish what style they were attempting. Threatens to be too bitter, but the finish never really gets out of hand. Can’t say I’m impressed, but if it’s really 2% ABV as the bartender claimed, well...it’s very good for being nearly alcohol free.
