Commercial Description:
A traditional London style beer, our Black Jack Porter highlights chocolate malt and Kent Goldings hops. Its slight initial sweetness quickly yields to the distinctive roastiness of the chocolate malt. The Kent Goldings hops perfectly balance the malt, making it very smooth, with a surprisingly clean finish.

Poured dark with a small head. Smelt sweet, but tasted horrible. I could not finish the other five beers out of my six pack.

Bottles at & from Microbar, Clapham. Dark ruby red in colour with a superb aroma - burnt sugar, red wine, caramel and dark fruits combine in a heady, perfumy dance. The flavour is likewise complex - liquorice, figs, pepper, smoke, caramel maltiness. Smooth as silk, the hops add a subtle fruit hint to the finish. Very good indeed.

Pours black with medium off white head. The nose is roasted malt, and chocolate, with a hint of coffee. Comes across the palate smooth as a dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and some smokiness take over. It leaves the palate as more of a coffee that lingers.

Bottle @ Chris O’s tasting. Black with medium off white head leaving laces. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, coffee and chocolate notes. Flavor goes same way with some liquerice notes.

Simply one of the best porters I’ve had. Sweet and verging on dessert-like, with a lovely creamy body. Cola-black with a ruby tint and an abrupt, vanishing head. Thin, fruity aroma of cocoa poweder, Cherry Ripe, figgy stone fruits and some peppery alcohol. Sweet and mild-flavoured, making it a real easy quaffer. Molten chocolate, figs and fruity acids. Some warmth in the finish. Lovely stuff. (355ml bottle from the IBS, Perth. Illegible best-by date)

Bottle, thanks to daknole! Pours clear cola brown with a fading but lacy tan head. Nice full aroma of brown sugar, roasted nuts, chocolate. Creamy medium body, light carbonation. The taste is sweet and surprisingly big with brown sugar, roasted nuts, figs, vanilla, licorice and chocolate all vying for attention. Semi-dry and softly bitter finish.

Black with big, foamy beige head / Big, smokey, roasty, chocolate and tobacco nose / Medium to full body, rich roast malts, touch of sweetness, and with some creamy hops on the long finish / Flavors of nuts, bittersweet chocolate, roast coffee, tobacco, and licorice / Outstanding - would stand up to many stouts.

Licorice, roasted malts, with some chocolate aromas. Pours dark amber with a thin white head, a deep reddish when held to the light. Roasty and smooth, sweet malts with some burnt sugars, hints of creamy coffee, with a bitter hop finish. Not bad but a little light.
