Commercial Description:
A traditional London style beer, our Black Jack Porter highlights chocolate malt and Kent Goldings hops. Its slight initial sweetness quickly yields to the distinctive roastiness of the chocolate malt. The Kent Goldings hops perfectly balance the malt, making it very smooth, with a surprisingly clean finish.

Huge dense cream-beige head over red-shot, near black beer. Very sweet liquorice nose, overripe pears, cake bottom. Sweet main impression, followed by a very strange flavour of old pistacchio nuts. Retronsal pure sugary liquorice. Watery MF, very light bodied. Just too watery too get syrupy. Not really great, no? Left Hand could do better.

Somewhat acidic and fairly dry. Minimal head. Thinnish. Smoothish. Lots of "-ish" in this beer.

Bottle. Coffee-heavy nose, light acidity with a touch of chocolate. Dark ruby with interesting pattern for a head, thin and bubbly. Burnt coffee and smoke, some bitter chocolate. Tastes better than that description sounds. Smooth and slightly dry palate. Nothing exceptional but not bad.

Bottle. Pours a thin-ish looking dark brown with a medium-sized tan head. Aromas are plain... dark and roasted malt. Not many intriguing side-notes. Flavor is about the same. A bit of a dusty and roasted malt flavor that is full, but directionless. Nice but boring.

A big tan frothy head makes this porter stand out in appearance. It is very dark with red highlights. Aroma is a delightful rich malt with a chocolate background. Flavor is roasted malt with more chocolate. Hops provide a nice life and some balance. Feel is smooth and creamy. I love a good porter and this one is better than average.

Nothing remarkable about the pour...looks like a porter...minimal head with a vigorous pour. Malty, roasted nut aroma is very sweet. Flavor is pretty good...chocolate malts dominate, but there’s the typical roasted nut flavors in there as well. Palate is a bit weak for a porter...but its not all that bad either, as the lack of body makes it real easy to drink. Left Hand puts out a milk stout...in some ways, this is almost like their ’chocolate milk’ stout! Pretty good overall!

This beer is pretty good. Nice aroma and flavor, good use of goldings. Carbonation is near perfect for this one. Chocolate malt is very obvious (good) and an aroma to match. I recommend drinking this from a Krug....Im drinking one right now....Great beer for the price, $8.79. Also, the head retention is not bad despite what I have read here.....Don’t wash your beer glass with soap gentleman!
