Commercial Description:
A traditional London style beer, our Black Jack Porter highlights chocolate malt and Kent Goldings hops. Its slight initial sweetness quickly yields to the distinctive roastiness of the chocolate malt. The Kent Goldings hops perfectly balance the malt, making it very smooth, with a surprisingly clean finish.

12 oz bottle with a bottling date of 04/20/05. Didn’t notice how old this was until I got it home (typical ‘wanna be’ a beer geek maneuver). Poured hazy dark brown with zero head. The aroma is assertive with sweet molasses soaked dark fruit, toffee, roasted malts and some grainy malts. The taste is like a weaker version of the Rogue Imperial Stout. I get dark fruit, molasses and toffee. The porter like roasted and burnt malts taste like they’ve been muted with age. Still tasty though. In the aftertaste I notice that some chocolate joins in with the rest of the dark fruit and sweet molasses notes.

Looks nice. Medium dark pour with medium to small head. Tastes a little malty but not much. A bit too carbonated to rate tops but still quite drinkable.

Clear dark chestnut color with a medium beige head. Roasty and fruity aroma. Notes of caramel and some cereal grain and notes of chocolate. Roasted flavor with chocolate. Dry finish. Light to medium bodied.

This one starts with a good pour and nice typical porter aroma. However, there is something dry and thin bodied about it that keeps it from being really satisfying; decent but boring.

Nice roasted nut flavor. Thick, creamy texture. the nose had a burnt wood pale hop smell. Some coffee flavors and chocolate. Had on tap and I would have this again if I found myself in a bar that had this on tap.

Ft. Myers, Fl. - Total Wine - 12 oz bottle. Dark ruby red to brown pour with a fluffy mocha colored head. Good sweet chocolatey aroma with some earthy notes. Solid porter flavor with good bitter chocolate notes, a hint of dirt and a bit of day old coffee. Mouthfeel is tongue coating, thick and nice. Solid Porter.

This beer didn’t do much for me. It had a fair amount of roasted malt character, but also had an odd vegetable taste that seemed out of place. Not a beer I’d recommend, given the great number of porters in the world. Color was an opaque black with abundant head. Aroma was a lightly sweet roastiness. Flavor was a muted roastiness, with an aforementioned vegetable taste I didn’t really enjoy. Mouthfeel was unremarkable. All-in-all, I wouldn not recommend this beer.
