Appearance: Clear dark ruby (lighter in color than Southern Tier Porter) with a smaller, quicker diminishing head. Not much lacework. Aroma: Nutty, lactic with hints boiled milk, mothballs, raisin, malt and caramel. Flavor and palate: Very low bitterness. Nutty. Lactic. A lot of boiled milk, caramel and marshmallows showing up. Sweet. Poor malt and hop profile. Medium bodied. Some mothballs sneaking in. Sweet malty finish which is reminiscent of marshmallows, walnuts and raisin. Overall impression: Sweet, malt accentuated, lactic with a very poor hop presence. Not pleasant at all and really dissapointing considering that I really love Left Hand Milk Stout. hughie (3087), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England

Taste is sweet with coffee and liquorice. Some bitterness. I always believe a porter, unlike a stout, should be emminently chuggable. This fits the bill. Loved it. drowland (1433), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 9, 2009 Pours a deep almost black when held up to the light this has a ruby tint and has good clarity. The head is medium sized and tight. Aroma is particularly good and has hints of smoky coffee, some chocolate, some dark fruits, and some mocha. Flavor is more of that great interplay with wonderful roasty and smoky coffee flavors and a nice little chocolate kick. The maltiness is well balanced with some good hop bitterness. This is pretty smooth but just a tad watery too. leaparsons (4755), Leicester, Leicestershire, England
