Commercial Description:
A traditional London style beer, our Black Jack Porter highlights chocolate malt and Kent Goldings hops. Its slight initial sweetness quickly yields to the distinctive roastiness of the chocolate malt. The Kent Goldings hops perfectly balance the malt, making it very smooth, with a surprisingly clean finish.

Bottled 355ml. Appearance: Clear dark ruby (lighter in color than Southern Tier Porter) with a smaller, quicker diminishing head. Not much lacework. Aroma: Nutty, lactic with hints boiled milk, mothballs, raisin, malt and caramel. Flavor and palate: Very low bitterness. Nutty. Lactic. A lot of boiled milk, caramel and marshmallows showing up. Sweet. Poor malt and hop profile. Medium bodied. Some mothballs sneaking in. Sweet malty finish which is reminiscent of marshmallows, walnuts and raisin. Overall impression: Sweet, malt accentuated, lactic with a very poor hop presence. Not pleasant at all and really dissapointing considering that I really love Left Hand Milk Stout.

Bottle from GBBF ’09. Dark brown. Sweet leathery aroma. Taste is sweet with coffee and liquorice. Some bitterness. I always believe a porter, unlike a stout, should be emminently chuggable. This fits the bill. Loved it.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass at an Old Chicago. Not bad, but far from anything special as far as I’m used to porters!

Pours a deep almost black when held up to the light this has a ruby tint and has good clarity. The head is medium sized and tight. Aroma is particularly good and has hints of smoky coffee, some chocolate, some dark fruits, and some mocha. Flavor is more of that great interplay with wonderful roasty and smoky coffee flavors and a nice little chocolate kick. The maltiness is well balanced with some good hop bitterness. This is pretty smooth but just a tad watery too.

Bottle. Dark brown with a small off-white head. Aromas are chocolate, oats and lactose with roast coffee. Flavours are sweet chocolate and caramel with coffee and some nuttiness. Lots of sweet lactose with dark chocolate bitterness on the finish. Some grittiness adds to the mouthfeel. Good.

Clear mahogany with a medium tan head. Aroma of toffee, chocolate, roasted malts and a touch of caramel. Taste is pretty much the same with a nice smooth body and a hint of smokiness to it. Nice porter.

Small head, good lacing. ruby in color. Taste of bread, and light hops. Hint of prune in there. Medium body, and an oily creamy texture. Chalky finish. Decent

Bottle. Poured near black with a light brown head. Aroma was chocolaty and a bit smokey. Flavor had a nice balance of chocolate and malts with a slight smokiness to it.
