redlight (1042), Winter Park, Florida, USA May 31, 2008 Licorice, roasted malts, with some chocolate aromas. Pours dark amber with a thin white head, a deep reddish when held to the light. Roasty and smooth, sweet malts with some burnt sugars, hints of creamy coffee, with a bitter hop finish. Not bad but a little light.
hop_lover (110), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Aug 20, 2008 Black Jack pours an almost black brown color. With a very fleeting off white head. Smoky aroma notes dominate. The flavor is smoky with a little spiciness from the hops. The beer is so smooth all the way through. Feels medium bodied. A pretty good porter indeed. jkaiser (68), USA Aug 20, 2008 This porter has a chocolate cocoa malt aroma. Lite bitterness from the hops gives way to sweet roasted chocolate malt flavor. I think they played this one too close to the vest. Not much of a screamer. Good for a meet and greet, not for doing the business. texasbartender (151), Sugarland, Texas, USA Aug 17, 2008 beer pours a water black witha thin head that doesn’t stay for the party. the nose is sweet roasted coffe and sugar with malts at the end the taste is sweetned coffe and tosted malts. the finisg has a little bite. Gregis (884), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pours a translucent dark reddish brown with a small, creamy beige head that laces well. The nose is a pleasant blend of roasty malt, cocoa and lightly earthy hops. Fairly light-bodied and creamy-slick it finishes with a lightly bitter-roasted conclusion. Bitter chocolate, roasted malt and coffee with earthy hops coming out toward the finish, combining in a bitter conclusion that is part roast, part hops. This is a pretty solid beer. It may not be as well integrated or balanced as some of my favorite porters, but it’s a nice brew emerica56 (445), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Aug 14, 2008 Pours a black color with a thin tan head that fades rather quick. There is some nice laceing left along the sides of the glass. The nose is of roasted chocolat malt with toasted almond and hints of oak. The flavor is very roasty and has a nice initial mocha notes with a subtle bitter finish. The finish is kind of dry and does not leave much flavor on the palate.
