Commercial Description:
Deep Cover Brown Ale is brewed in the tradition of the brown ales commonly enjoyed in the U.K. Despite its reddish-brown color, it is light bodied and slightly sweet, making it a very drinkable and refreshing brew. Dark caramel malts lend this ale its rich color, while toasted and Munich malts provide just enough body to be truly enjoyable.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium brown body with a frothy, off-white head. Smell: Toasted breadcrusts, nuts, and some chocolate shavings. Light English hop notes. Taste: Sweet, toasty Munich malts with a light nuttiness and touch of chocolate. Very, very light bitterness. Toasted caramel in the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Pleasant, easy drinking from this brown ale. I’d have drank more than one if I didn’t only have the one bottle. Oh well!

While waiting for my trusty SA glass to dry, I sneak a whiff and it smells good! Sweet maltiness like every good brewery smells, mmm. Pours really light for a brown and theres a slight metalic odor to it once it opens up a bit. Smells like a malted milkshake. Body is really on the thin side with not as much maltiness as the original aroma advertised. In fact, the long this beer sits in front of me bare for evaluation, the more I dont like it. In fact, I’m not happy at all. Buh bye Deep Cover!

What a letdown. After tasting so many great brews by Left Hand, this is by far my least favorite. Very light, almost watery. No real aroma, light on the flavor. Just too thin to do much of anything. I guess every company gets a Mulligan.

BOTTLE: pours light brown with beige head. Aroma is very sweet, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet and delicious, lighter body than I hoped and a very short finish. Good flavor but more body would make this a great beer.

bottle from BOM club. pours a light brown with a 1/4 " white head which dissipates to a thin lacing. slight sweet malty aroma. medium body with a highly sweet top, yet mellow on the sides of the mouth. some nutty and caramel flavors linger in the finish... a bit too thin though on the finish. overall a very drinkable brown ale, but there are much better ones out there.

Pours a clear but dark brown that has ruby edges when held to light. Nose is a woody cotton candy. Flavor is a bit too sweet I say. Sure there are some nice bark like characteristics there, but it is just a little too loud in the sugar department. Over time though that seems to calm down and you are given more of that earthy, woody, brown ale character. Still seems a little too light on the end though. Feel is fine. But the overall drinkability stays good at best. Just seems to lack the right edge that would send it to another level. There certainly is potential there, but it just doesn’t come through.

Pour is a translucent copper with no head at all. Smells faintly of coffee and hazelnuts. It is slick on the palate with very little taste. The aftertaste, however, can only be described as the same aftertaste you get from eating peas – sort of sweet but a little nutty and grassy? You really taste it in the front part of the roof of your mouth and only the outer edges of your tongue. Weird. I wont be buying this again.

BOTM Club, Honey brown colored, light white head that dissipated fast. Not much of an aroma to speak of. I expected a stronger flavor but it was kind of bland. A little nutty, all in all a good taste, I was just expecting more.
