Commercial Description:
Deep Cover Brown Ale is brewed in the tradition of the brown ales commonly enjoyed in the U.K. Despite its reddish-brown color, it is light bodied and slightly sweet, making it a very drinkable and refreshing brew. Dark caramel malts lend this ale its rich color, while toasted and Munich malts provide just enough body to be truly enjoyable.

This beer was one of the 12 beers featured in a beer tasting event I hosted back in April. The avg. rating among the 10 participants was 7.1 out of 10 (my rating was a 7 out of 10). Not having started rating beers using the ratebeer method and scale at that point, I just had another opportunity to do so. Heavy malt and moderate hop aroma. Avg. sized, creamy, off-white head which mostly diminishes. Murky, reddish-brown body. Flavor is heavy malt in the initial moutfeel with moderate bitter notes becoming apparent as it warms. Long in duration, medium to full bodied. Very tasty.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades to a ring leaving some lace. Nice clear red/amber color. Good carbonation and light-medium bodied. Slight malty nose. Starts malty some cocoa nothing overwhelming, drying finish. Brewed Jul 27, 2005. $1.69 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City, IA.

12 oz bottle from a Winter Beer 10 Pack purchased at World Market for me by my wife. Pour is clear golden brown with a full one inch off white head. Decent amount of carbonation visible. Aroma of hazel nut semi-sweet maltiness, touch of dusty cardboard present. Taste is the nutty malt of the nose plus throat lozenge cherry sweetness. Sweet was quite disjointed from the nuttiness. Finish is quick and crisp. Palate is thin-medium, clean and nicely drinkable. Decent enough brown.

(Bottle) Pours deep dark red. Aroma of caramel, nuts and chocolate. Also some dark bred. Light flavour of soft roasted malt, chocolate and nuts. Light caramelly. Round and soft mouthfeel but a bit too thin. Rather sweet. Light body.

bottle. Solid earthy brown with a thin white head. The aroma is also fairly thin with some barley. It’s a smooth malty brew, but with little else really going on.

12oz bottle from Party Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a clear dark reddish brown with thin off-white head. Little head retention or lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of raisins, ripe fruit, some chocolate, some spice. Flavor is similar with more prominent chocolate notes, some sweet malt, toffee, caramel and maybe hints of coffee. Generally medium body with a sweet and malty finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark reddish brown with minimal tan head. The nose is roasted nuts and sweet malt. Taste is pretty much the same. Light-to-medium mouth feel. Every day average brown.

Milky brown with thin off-white head. Nutty aroma with toffee and other assorted sweet malts. Taste is malty and semi-nutty with a bunch of not so good adjectives to follow… thin, metallic, sour, semi-bland. Semi-dry finish.
