Nose is slightly roasty, sweet, nutty, and with a note of chocolate. Very similar wooden, pine hop profile to the sawtooth ale, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if it were the same recipe with toasted malts added. Thin and fizzy on the palate. Finishes sweet, hardly any bitterness to perk the palate up. Not so great. Crafty07 (392), Florence, Kentucky, USA

This watery thin, reddish ale was weak and very unpleasant. It abides by the commercial description as it is light bodied and slightly sweet but it is diluted and easily forgettable. | 1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 1/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Aug 9, 2006 From the bottle, pours a semi-clear brownish amber without head. Really malty syrup-ey aroma, and not much else. Well this tastes awful. Like drinking liquid malt extract, with a little bit of bitterness at the end. It’s really like drinking some hopped malt extract cut with some water. This is one of my very few drainpours. MMM...Beer (385), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 22, 2003 Not a very interesting beer. Tawny color with a decent head and lace. Somewhat sweet aroma that doesn't quite last very long. Consistently dull taste with a slight kick of sweetness at the end. awiseman01 (366), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Pours dirty brown, no head. Smell is mostly brown malts, toffee and prune. Flavors follow, goes down light and easy. Light palate, but enjoyable. Wrath (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 25, 2008 Poured a deep red/brown with an attractive light tan head about half an inch thick that stayed around and left a nice lacing.
I loved the aroma, but recognize that it’s definitely a personal thing - chocolate, caramel, and molasses.
Malt was dominant in the taste, with cocoa, caramel and nuttiness.
Nice full body with pleasant aftertaste.
A very nice surprise from the beer club. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA

Taste is much like the smell. Not a whole lot goin on. Bland malts and light hops. Caramel and toffee hints.
